Draft picks are how you sustain excellence.
You get 4 years of cheap service.
Teams that rely on free agency eventually get into cap jail.

The Texans have a QB and an aging defense.
The salary cap can be manipulated short term but sending money down the line but it eventually catches up and a team will have a lot of dead money on its cap.

Watson is a stud but he needs a complete team.
Your team isn’t paying Allen yet and you guys will have cap space to pay him and not really kill your roster because you have guys nailed the draft. By nailing the draft you have cap space to keep the important core.

The draft is very important with the salary cap.
FAs want to get paid.
It’s the vets chasing rings who will go to a winner. Not guys in FA for the first time.
A solid all-around team means nothing -NOTHING- without a franchise quarterback. You of all ppl should know that.

For a couple years the Bills had a few (close to) franchise best defenses. They had Shady, Sammy Watkins, Robert Woods... and it meant nothing because we had EJ Manuel, Thad Lewis, Kyle Orton, and Tuh-rod at quarterback.

The Patriots won their first 3 Super Bowls with an all-around team.
Brady became like Peyton Manning in 2007.
From 2007 onward the team was more offensive than defense but they didn’t win the last 3 SBs till they rebuilt the defense.

QBs are the most important decision but if you don’t have draft captial and or cap space the the QB can’t win it by themselves.
The Texans aren’t close to ready to compete it will take some time.
Again their defense sucks and is getting old.

I don’t blame Pederson for wanting to lose but the only issue I have is how blatantly disrespected his players who played hard and put their bodies on the line.

Players shouldn’t care what he says anymore.
There has to be something the NFL can do in the future.
The Philly coach wanted to lose. Maybe the draft order is determined from the first 15 games or something. So losing the last week doesn’t help teams.
It’s not about the Giants at all.

I don't disagree with you generally here but don't just say the HC wanted to lose. The front office wanted to lose and they forced the HC to do their bidding. Why on earth would the HC want to lose? The NFL should punish them by making them draft where they would have been drafting (9th) if they won the game.

What about everyone else who rested players? Hurts was 7/20 and an int he had a right to look at another qb.

One slightly off topic thought - can we tap the brakes on the idea that Jalen Hurts is the answer? Would be an ideal back-up but will never be an effective starter over a long haul imo.

Yeah but with a whole lot of help from Philly who abandoned the run and never switched Mills to CB until game was essentially over. Philly didn't play the last 3 quarters like a team that gave a crap about winning that game.

I'm not saying they tanked even though it sounds it. Just that they were playing around in both games so thus NY fans being upset is pretty irrelevant. Philly has issues in general. WFT for that matter too. The NFC East was a walking injury tent all season. No team has really any reason to be upset with anyone but themselves.

You make a good point. In retrospect there were some things that happened in that Philly/DAL game that make me think that the staff/front office was not all in on that game either.

Quarterback trumps everything else regarding roster make up and it’s not even close.

I am probably in the minority, but Washington has the type of defense that has historically bothered Brady over the years. A team that just needs to rush 4 and play 7 in coverage. It's very similar to the Ravens and Giants teams that have given him trouble. I still don't think Washington can score more than 17 though. I think Tampa wins 24 -14 or something like that.

Yeah I'm counting on TB covering that spread. Alex Smith looked severely compromised last night playing on one leg and his OL were getting overrun by back-up pass rushers.

I'm very interested to see the order in which Chase, Smith and Pitts come off the board.

Also interested in seeing where Trey Lance goes.

I really want the Giants get either Chase or Smith (would be fine with Pitts). I don't want Waddle (nothing against him, I just don't want a 5'10" guy.

I think Chase and Pitts go top 10.
Chase was better than Jefferson at LSU last year.
He was the guy who won the Biletnikoff last year.
Cincinnati never trades recently it seems and they want OL help so I think Chase goes to either Philly or Detroit.

Pitts I think somebody will trade up for him.
His floor IMO is New England at 15.
They need a TE badly so if he fell they would take him most likely.

Smith is getting compared to Marvin Harrison he should be top 15 as well.

The QBs are going to cause good players to slip.

The Houston job is the worst job out there right now.
I wouldn’t want it.
Jacksonville is the best job.
NY Jets if they don’t NY Jets it have a nice job but they unlike Jacksonville don’t have Lawrence. Jets have picks to stock up talent.

thats why Jacksonville went 1-15 this year, they cut guys and made trades to clear cap space and accumulate picks

Smith can't throw it more than 10 yards with any sort of zip. It's all underneath stuff.

That brace he wears for dead foot... I mean, I'm really scared for him. Suh is going to be after him.

Just that 4th and 1 play where the Eagle jumped offsides and then was falling into his legs, I was cringing like “not his legs!”

He proved his point, I hope he takes his miraculous good health and hangs it up sooner than later.

At this point he would be back as their starter next year. No?

Bucs are 8 point road favorites.
Ravens are 3.5 point road favorites.

Tennessee defense sucks.
Baltimore lost to them in OT and those HC coaches hate each other.

Saints are 10 point favorites on Bears.
Bills are 6.5 point favorites on Colts.
Seahawks are 4.5 point favorites on Rams.
Steelers are 4.5 point favorites on Browns.

I like Tennessee and Cleveland in the AFC as dogs. Baltimore’s success the past month is beating up on terrible teams outside of Cleveland. Tennessee already beat them once. I don’t get that line at all. Baltimore isn’t stopping them on defense.

You care about draft picks too much.

There are creative ways to clear up cap problems relatively quickly and there are also creative ways to find more pick assets. For sure, there will always be FAs that want to play with Watson.

More than anything, if you’re a good coach you can squeeze more out of what you already have on the roster.

Watson is an unbelievable bird in hand. I don’t think Lawrence will ever become as good as him, imo. I could be wrong (and I don’t have a better way to say it) but Lawrence feels clunky to me. Watson is smooth and is a complete baller.
I too think the Lawrence hype will not match the production.

That line surprised me too. Even if Baltimore is a slightly better team, I would've expected that to be a Pick 'em in Tenn. Maybe just recency bias but one astute poster here predicted Houston would put up a better fight than Cincy last week.
Not really liking any other dogs.
Favorites advancing in the NFC will make for a much better 2nd round.

You better be a special talent to be taken in the top 10 as a Tight End. If the Cowboys take him at 10 I will be furious.

I've been banging this drum forever; it wasn't long ago people thought McCarthy was a good coach. I have come around on maybe the pendulum is coming back the other way. There are more competent QBs now than ever. There might be 5-7 teams who have no chance next year because their QB stinks; it used to be at least half the league. Obv it's still a massive advantage having an elite guy which is why I'd want to avoid taking an AFC West job; it's just going to be too hard to ever sniff a home playoff game for the next decade.
