I don’t think it’s arbitrary at all. They are saying donate to NIL, use the collective. Collective has control, knows the rules.
While your scenario as long as it’s legal, checking with compliance etc could work, you are putting a lot of faith on the individual donating, checking with compliance with every thing. In this scenario the school loses control.
I honestly don’t know what others schools do and frankly I don’t care. We are only putting ourselves at a disadvantage if people don’t donate to the collective because they are butt hurt about wanting to do things their own way.
So I would argue if a donor loves Syracuse or a coach so much they will do everything to help. If I was in his situation I would say hey Red, how can I help. Well Pine I need $500k for a top shelf PF. Ok what’s the best way for me to help, well can you donate it to the basketball collective. You got it red! It’s just the simple and quite frankly my greatest disconnect with this whole entire thing.
I also don’t buy the BS administrative cost of donating to a collective. Every NFP has administrative costs. Make a wish, Red Cross, Ronald McDonald, food bank. It’s the cost of doing business, if you are worried about wasted money donating to an NFP for administrative costs than the reasons why you want to donate to the cause are disingenuous at best. You might have an argument if the administrative costs are exceedingly high.
I get what you are saying but it’s not like there isn’t an easy work around. That fact that he doesn’t says everything I need to know. He is all steak and no sizzle.
