Notre Dame Post Mortem Thread...

There’s clearly been dissent within the team this year. Guessing a few rotten apples can spoil the bunch. I think it was Carlson who mentioned you normally have teams fighting for the Seniors to go out right but most of the(huge) Freshman class has zero connection to the Seniors. DART doesn’t seem to be doing its job.

I’m still in on Fran but lots of things have to be changed, difficult conversations had and just a reset of sorts.
Not the case at all (on dissent piece). If anything the group is almost too nice and lacks some strong upper class leaders. Our best leaders are freshman. Things will get better.

The offensive game plan keeps getting shrunk every game and it's making the situation worse. It's not how I'd gameplan as OC. They're trying to simplify the playbook but they're just removing things, and it makes it easier for the defense to gameplan against us. And then things get worse.

Notre Dame had everyone in the box yesterday and destroyed our o line. We ran a bunch of short routes, barely tried to stretch the field, and when we did, we couldn't connect playing against NFL caliber CBs.

Collins playing hurt has wrecked the flow of the O-line too. Cruz is doing his best but he's not a center and luckily won't be next year. There's been a bunch of things that have gone wrong since Steve went down.

There will be a number of coaching changes. Fran's already learning from this and we will get better.

Well that’s great to hear. I too hope things get better soon and leaders emerge.

we were nationally humiliated. coach brown, the program . the university. the fans. someone has to pay.
and btw jim brown played in 118 games. derrick henry 146 . more but better ?
Yes. Jim Brown only played for 9 seasons. This is Henry's 10th. Plus in the Jim Brown era I think they only played 12 games a season. Possibly 14. Now 17.

I had one about 3 weeks ago. I still say the prep was a million times worse than anything.

Today was kind of comical. I kinda didn't even want us to score. Sometimes when the train is crashing, it's good to just overcommit.
The heat of the lava eruptions are very unpleasant

It would be really interesting to know how much of last year's offensive strategy and playcalling success was really Kyle McCord. I'm not saying his arm talent, which is unarguable. I'm talking about scheme and playcalling.

I think a lot of it was Kyle.
Except we were getting really good passing production with Angeli.

My concern is is that Fran thinks E-Rob is doing a good job. It’s one thing to not get rid of a guy because he’s your buddy and obviously that would be an issue. But I think it’s a worse issue if you don’t replace him because you don’t think he’s doing a bad job.

I mean, how many years now has a really good QB for us hidden mediocre coaching? Don't get me wrong, I was excited after last year but I was also in "wait and see mode" with Fran when others were talking about him being the next Penn St coach or extending him. We were spoiled last year with McCord. I still support Fran, but let's be real. You can't have a program where your starting QB goes down and then the team looks like a high school squad.

I will say this, I'm looking forward to seeing how Fran approaches this. We will see next year if he's another Dino (or perhaps worse) or really does have the chops to lead this program to continued success.

I’ve seen clips all over the place about this game. SU was a complete laughing stock in the sports world this weekend.

So classic.
yes, memes, all kinds of Facebook reels and X posts, they keep showing up in my feeds because they pick up anything Syracuse-related based on my follows and interests. I am reliving this historic travesty all over again today. Congratulations, Brown, you have made us the laughing stock of sports. Good job.

We are the worst team in college football and I’m not joking. How the heck did it get this bad? This is way more than just losing Angeli.
Last night I was watching a west coast game involving San Jose State..Their supposedly good QB goes down and they bring in a Freshman QB from Hawaii named Amisone who lights it up. Why not us?

People will remember this about as long as they remembered our clips of the WRs “mossing” defenders - which is to say about 24-48 hours tops. Whatever.

We had a Dungey once.

Yep. In fact, It’s already forgotten. No one gives a crap about an SU football blowout.

That's sort of the point. We've become so irrelevant that people aren't surprised if we lose by 63 points. That to me is what is most disappointing. This works against us in many ways, most importantly the impact on recruits.

You can say this, sure. He made in-season changes by getting rid of the WR coach (which is weird, because they were actually a top performing unit before they had nobody to throw the ball to them).

One thing that hasn't changed is the defense and its abysmal performance. The defense was down 21-0 without having played a single down. Notre Dame ran the ball 24 times for 13.7 yards per carry. That is insane.

The defense was fresh. How does this happen? Is our talent disparity that far from ND? You knew they would run the ball a lot with a three TD lead -- how do you not load up against the run and have your linebackers closer to the line of scrimmage or run blitz? Love is a great player - might be the Heisman winner. But c'mon - 8 for 171 and 3 TD's would be tough to do against an FCS school.

Elijah Robinson can't be the DC next year - given the last two years and what we have seen, it's clear to anyone who has watched the majority of the games that our defense, and particularly the defensive line, is atrocious. Isn't that the position he coached and hung his hat on? And made his mark with other schools?

If Fran truly has "already learned", he'd send Elijah Robinson packing. But blood is thicker than water, and that ain't happening. So has Fran REALLY learned?

The thing is, assistant coaches act and carry themselves differently than head coaches. That's natural, should be, and is expected. So, when an assistant coach takes that leap, it can take time. I see Fran trying to navigate that. At times I see him doing well and other times still acting like an assistant coach who can act a certain way. I believe Fran can make the full transition at Syracuse. Next year will tell us all.

Thought it would be nice to see a game at Notre Dame, experienced the pregame atmosphere, was nice, lots of ND fans welcoming us to campus, got the feeling after a while though that they knew they were going to win easy, but I doubt they expected what happened. Good experience till the game started, When it was 21-0 I had ND fans walking into the row offering condolences for our loss, never had that happen espcially a few minutes into the game. Was not the best feeling, Their offense hadn't even been on the field yet. When they finally ran 2 plays it was 28-0, and after they ran 3 more it was 35-0. I have never experienced anything like it. Some of the ND fans like someone else mentioned asked why they were playing ACC teams like this.

Certainly glad it was not as cold as it could have been and was not raining. ND did not need Carr to do much and he didn't, threw a few balls up for grabs down the sidelines that we defended ok, and completed a few shorter passes but when you score multiple TDs on long runs basically untouched I guess you don't need to. So many things wrong with this team. Can't run the ball, because the blocking is not good and the RB's seem intent on running into the back of the linemen who get no push. The ND fans complained when we gained positive yards let alone any first downs. WRs seem to be unable to get any separation no matter who we play and when they are open the QB's tend to wait to long to throw allowing the DBs time to recover or to read the QBs eyes and make a play on the ball leading to ints.

Defensively would have been hard to stop ND, the offense not moving the ball hurts, but it is the overall defensive effort this year that has shown the glaring weeknesses with tackling, penetration and pressure on the QB's. To top it off the coaches have demenonstrated no ability to game plan or adapt, I keep saying over the years can our OL recruits be this bad, but now our QB recruits seem worse, even simple things they cannot do, not sure what Filardi is doing in practice to show that he should have gotten the UNC and ND starts but must be going against our defense even makes him look good. Carney I'll just say I don't know what the thinking was there, someone asked what has he done to warrant getting any time. Well he has completed a few passes, hasn't gotten picked and has a couple decent runs, but limited series and play calls. What would anyone expect from him. Just puzzling there.

Oh well don't know what to think about the game against BC but they were in the game against ND and were driving in the 4th quarter for a potential game tying score. I don't have a good feeling about this game, since we aren't going to shutout BC and have to wonder if we will score. I'll still be there but this has not been fun to watch.

What did you think of their stadium? I thought it was a dump and just marginally better then uconns stadium! Seating was awful with tighter legroom than the dome, which is far nicer and much more vibrant after the renovations. I was really surprised how unimpressive it was. Campus was nice but a bit too monotone with the buildings.

They’ve got a great propaganda machine. Places like Lane stadium, happy valley, lsu death all better venues in my opinion.

Wrong… this will impact Cuse for this upcoming season. We will lose commits, transfers, and negatively impact recruitment

We sat in Sec 109, I didn't think the leg room was awful but maybe that was because it was in the upper bowl which was added later. Plastic bench, which I was glad wasn't metal. You can tell it is an older stadium, it is a long walk up the ramp they added for the upper bowl but I got a lot of added steps walking around campus also, after sitting for the 9 hour drive I didn't mind the extra exercise. You are correct the campus is nice but they have kept the same color scheme to the buildings. The bulk of the campus is nothing special beyond their couple of iconic landmarks (golden dome, grotto and Touchdown Jesus) but I don't get enamored with the look of a campus. Notre Dame has its own mystique and prestige based on its reputation and that is its main draw. That was well put, they do have a great propaganda machine.

To be hoenest after the first couple minuts with 2 pick sixes and the blocked punt TD I was kind of numb to the whole experience, add 2 long TD runs in their first 5 plays and it was even worse. I was under no delusion that we would be competitive but didn't expect their defense to out score their offense in the first quarter. A couple of their fans said we shouldn't have put all our eggs in one basket (with Angeli, when I told them we first got a 4 star QB from LSU who we found out in the Spring was not it, then picked up Angeli, they hadn't realized that). Just sad that we really haven't been competitive since Clemson.
