BFD. There’s a bit of a bait and switch involved there, as Notre Dame compared it to in conference games specifically. Its closer to a P4 nonconference game than a conference game. That’s the actual comparison. And there might be a tiny, itty-bitty benefit to schools there - but it’s not that much. And those games are increasingly rare, there are no games for a comparison at Syracuse in ages. If high level nonconference games were important, they would be a regular occurrence.
Plus Notre Dame is ignoring the fact that the agreement locks in a bunch of games every year they don’t need to scramble around scheduling a in an environment where P4 schools aren’t feeling a lot of pressure to schedule Notre Dame. They ignore the benefit they get, overvalue the benefit they provide - and can’t figure out why nobody agrees with them.
The fact they had such a public tantrum is actually a really good indicator of their declining power. The loudest guy in the room is usually the guy with the least true power (or close to the least). They’re having a tantrum because they don’t have any way to leverage actual power.
