Now that we're down to 10 scholarship players

One positive light, I really didn't think we needed Bryant before. If we had CM and DC, there really isn't a compelling reason for him to come here. Assuming this move does not prclude grabbing another player, I think it makes Syracuse a lot more attractive to Bryant.

And either way, it clears the decks for Battle. I think Battle may be the most important guy in the next 3 years of Syracuse basketball. We need this kid badly and we have no backup plan that is worth a dog gone.

Who is our main competition for Battle? I would think he realized we cleared the deck for him to get major PT.

Just trying to be a calming effect

CM was leaving after next year anyway.

I agree that Battle is the most important potential recruit for SU. We need a PG and this kid can do it all including shoot and he's a strong leader. But I will be shocked if he doesn't sign with Duke.

This program is far from a disaster. We will be very good next year. People here don't know how good DC looks. I know his history makes it tough to count on him. I understand that. But with him at center and G and the rest, will win a lot of games.

We still will have plenty of good players. We'll still be Syracuse. But I think we'll be more like last year's team than what we had from 2010-2014.

We can't really blame McCullough if this also causes us to lose Bryant because we now cannot postpone the penalty. Chris didn't put us on probation. It's jsut that the timing could not have been worse.

True. The timing is bad, no question, and I have a sick feeling in my stomach, but CMac has to look out for himself. He doesn't seem to have a strong connection with Syracuse as opposed to a Frank Kaminsky coming back to UW (and CMac was probably irked by JB's comments early in the season, regardless of merit), he is not responsible for Syracuse's past behavior, and should not be expected to make decisions (or delay making decisions) based on the timing of another of Syracuse's potential commits. It may end up being a good decision, it may not work out, but I can't say I wouldn't do the same thing if I were in his situation, so I can't judge.

My Dr. has pointed out to me that BJ and Ron are still officially on scholarship at this point. ;)

And that's where it gets muddy. Do release papers play a role on timing. Do they even get release papers. Are they still considered on scholie for SU next season until they actually enroll someplace else. It's not whether they are on scholie now, they are. But what is their status for next year considered today?

Interesting scenario in terms of committed financial obligations for next season. Buss and BJ certainly remain on scholarship through the end of the academic semester but I would think that since they have their release they are not committed for 2015-16. Assume that takes them off the table. Because of timing I assume CMac is off the table too. Even if there is no confirmation that he has signed with an agent he would only have until April 12th to withdraw and Bryant can't execute a LOI until April 15th. Sound to me like we are locked into the 10 scholarship limit now for 2015-16 absent the remaining loophole that an appeal would open.

Chris doesn't owe us anything about staying. But he certainly could have had the decency to talk with the coach before announcing it publicly and possibly buying the staff enough time to get Bryant's decision/signing which may only be a few days away.

Has McCullough announced anything yet?

They muddied it with their own wording we defer and move on IMO. I certainly agree that its a murky and muddy.
