It seems to me that the O Line has been an underachiever this year. If it were not for Dungey's escapability we would have many more sacks. More importantly, we aren't run blocking very well and don't seem to be improving.

Yesterday Dungey's fumble was a direct result of a UVA player in the backfield when the exchange was being made.

I am surprised at the lack of comment about the play of our most expereriened unit. I guess the poor defensive play has overshadowed our poor O Line play.

Agreed. On the flipside, UVA's OL started to dominate 2H.

This is what drove me nuts. I kept thinking to myself, "why the hell have we abandoned play action passes?" And then I realized, "Oh, right, because the OL isn't giving Dungey enough time for those types of plays to develop."

Our strength and conditioning coach just plain sucks. Belt sizes never seem to improve.

His nutrition program starts with a case of beer, that is not my opinion, but from someone who has dealt with him.

Some say he was great when he was at N.C.St.

When you look at his bio he won ACC S&C coach of the year just once in 14 years there when there was only 8 teams. Sure you can get accredited by a lot of groups, but you also have to apply what you learn.

One of the current o-lineman told me first hand that he needed to change his ways on his approach. We shall see if it working.

It's why we didn't even have a downfield route in the playbook yesterday. Our OL was getting obliterated in pass pro and Dungey was running for his life. In many cases that worked out for us, but we can't win games that way. If the OL can't get their crap together the season will be over before we know it

This is the second time this morning I've heard from someone who has spoken to people within the program that Hicks is a major problem. He apparently makes conditioning an afterthought.

One consistent thing over all these terrible years. Will Hicks.

And every year we hear about our strength and conditioning challenges outside a few Marrone years.

Maybe a change in that department is needed too.

The majority of current OL are subpar, and have been for several years. Trudo showed a ton of early promise, but his development stagnated. Robinson is marginal. Ditto Foy, although he's been okay as a LT [which is more than what I expected, frankly]. Palmer is playing out of position. Emerich has been average, which sadly is a step forward with this group.

We are in dire straights at tackle. We really need Conway to be legit, and for somebody to emerge at RT [Ward? Adams? McGloster?] so that Palmer can move to RG.

We really have to hope that the redshirting frosh [and Conway, who isn't redshirting] are legit, and better than their predecessors. We need them to be better than the current group.

It seems like he has been able to eek out a career based on Freeney's glowing reviews alone.

Using him as an example, I think Hicks does alright with ectomorphic somatypes. Packing some lean mass on them. With the typical Endo/Meso somatypes, he seems to use the same approach (MOAR CALORIES!!!), and it ends up badly for their waistlines.

HE'S A CHEAP HIRE.

If any other P-5 program thought he was any good they would out bid a cash strap Syracuse Athletic program for his services.

What concerns me the most is that this unit is the most experienced group on the team, and by a wide margin. Posters got on me last year when I was questioning Adam, but I don't see how anyone can argue that the trio of Trudo, Robinson, and Foy (although I think he is the best of bunch) have regressed. I thought the same last year, but the injury excuse was there for people to point to. I'm not sure what's going on with Robinson, but I saw at least 3 times where Robinson either missed an assignment or just got totally blown by. It's also very concerning that yesterday there seemed to be numerous missed assignments where nobody touched a defender coming from right up the gut. I just don't get how such an experienced unit has got this bad, especially after 3 of them played on 2 of our better OL's we've had up here. I think Adam has proved his worth on the recruiting trail, and deserves a spot on the staff, but I really don't think OL coach is the answer. Maybe he can be the new secondary coach?

I will say this for the 100th time. Adam has never coached an OL at any level in his life. How Shaf could hand one of the most important units on a football team to a complete rookie is beyond me. HORRIBLE hire and it is showing big time. He needs to be let go after the year and i think that reed should be fired as well as both of those guys have done nothing to improve the kids

Wasn't Adam a secondary coach before becoming a HC? He's proven his worth on the recruiting trail, maybe secondary coach would be a better fit?

There were some epically bad blown assignments yesterday

Like real bad, and right up the middle to boot. It's never good when you're turning around to run after a guy that just flew by you. Thankfully Dungey's elusiveness helped them save some face, or it could have been a whole lot worse.

He's Lester's pick as he spent about 5-6 years coaching with him at Western Mich. and then at Elmhurst.Granted he was a G.A. at West.Mich. when Shafer was there for 1 year

You, I, and a few others were all saying the same thing. The amazing thing was that despite our record and what appeared to be serious regression, our thoughts were pretty much shut right down. Injuries and McD were the two big excuses. The OLine didn't block the guy in front of them because of McD playcalling.

Our OLine is awful. It was supposed to be a strength of the team this year!

Going to be tough next year when those 3 are gone and 3 of the 5 linemen are first time starters. With the 2 experienced guys being Palmer (at Tackle) and Emerich at Center (all 270lbs of him).

I hope the underclassmen are extremely talented kids.

The O Line play has been inconsistent at best. At this pint I feel like we need to run the ball more to protect Dungy from our pass protection.
