Official Boneyard Unintentional Hilarity Thread.

What I long for is the day when you guys can make a thread like this about Duke and UNC, teams we're actually supposed to care about... lol.

I dont dislike you Dasher, I was just looking for some debate and without reading the thread I made an assumption that there wasnt a decent amount of Boneyard folks participating, which I suppose could have been wrong. It's just part of who I am to dislike seeing defenseless beatings...kind of a public defender mentality.

Seriously though, I wish folks could find a tenth of this obsession about our current conference members. Im guessing that wont happen until we're no longer the victims of such disgraceful beatdowns? So I'm guessing that is some displacement of frustration on someone you prefer to think of as lesser, though they beat us every other year, despite the great disadvantages you folks mockingly say they face. Am I the only one who sees the irony and humor of it all? I've truly moved on, and am rooting for you guys to hopefully do the same and find something to say about our superbowls. I mean, I think we have a legit shot this season to not get bent over like we have been, and possibly even win!

Dasher, I do want to express appreciation for you helping the guy out, even though you ruthlessly mock his team. It's just hard for me to accept that the irony of this isnt visible to anyone else. Maybe I need to go buy a 12 pack to help me get it? lol

I'll just say it plainly. You guys still have a bone for Uconn.
What you seem to miss, with a somewhat rambling incoherence, is that UConn, unlike Rutgers football for example, has actually earned their rivalry status w/ SU. “Six OTs” being only one example of the competitive nature of said rivalry, one built over years of tough wins and bitter losses...on BOTH sides! How you can begin to equate that well-earned animosity, with the relatively new-born head butting w/ the Dukes and UNCs in our new conference, is frankly mindboggling. We mock UConn, and vice-versa, mostly because of our shared history together. Nothing wrong with that at all, and it definitely isn’t an indication of obsession IMO, mostly because UCONN has earned even a begrudging respect thru their accomplishments. The fact that they’re struggling and dying on the vine is of great pleasure to our fanbase, because we can jeer from the sidelines and watch as they squirm.
I’ve often railed on these forums about the unhealthy obsession that some SU fans have with Rutgers football. Why...because they, IMHO, have never earned such attention that only a true rival deserves. They’ve never won anything of meaning, yet some continue to shower them with an attention that’s undeserved.
UConn OTOH, has won and won big. They deserve our loathing and hatred because they’ve proved it where it counts, on the court...and not just on some message board. The rivalry is real, so yes...our mocking at their situation is not only acceptable, it is expected.

I mean, do we even have a current rivalry? Am I the only one who misses that, instead of living in the past? Short post. Maybe the Bonnies/Johnnies, lol?

I'm not sure that any school has as many legit rivals as Syracuse Basketball. Football is where we are lacking one especially since WVU will likely never schedule us again they want to play Pitt annually not us. And Pitt feels the way about WVU that WVU feels about us they want to play PSU annually not WVU.

We are probably UVA's biggest rival after the Elite 8 game. VT isn't relevant enough for them.

We have beaten Duke 3 times since joining the league and played some epic games vs them.

Those are our 2 'new' ACC rivals. Maryland would be the third if they hadn't left.

Pitt considers us their biggest rival in BB. St Johns probably considers us bigger rivals than any NBE school. Gtown definitely considers us bigger rivals than any NBE school. Nova might as well. Kansas and IU consider us rivals even if we don't play them often. BC considers us their biggest rival after ND.

There isn't anyone close to being as hated as us in the AACK to uconn fans.

Our schedule is excellent we've made a final four and a sweet 16 in 2 years where we should have been playing in the NIT because of good scheduling. The new conference is great and the best part about it is that uconn got left out. But I love that we haven't ran away from former Big East foes and have scheduled all of them since we went to the ACC.

My only requests are for some home and homes with west coast school like UCLA or Arizona.

The Elite Eight and beating you when you were undefeated are big drivers, plus how important SU was to the Big East’s rep/mystique/etc. The Twerps were a much bigger rival for us than VPI could ever hope to be.

No doubt DeLaney now sees UConn as a value play for the B1G. Get them now for cheap before they are a powerhouse in a few years. UConn to the B1G is imminent.

Unless it's not.
What's this cheap crap? Once the bidding starts for UConn it will be a feeding frenzy. My guess is that the Patriot league won't let them go this time.

The same thing is happening to them in men's basketball. They've gone from 19th to 52nd in attendance in 15 years.

The Boneyard is foll of boneheads. They constantly argue against UMASS to the AAC. Yet if that were to happen, their rivalry would be intense. Just stupid northeast people who can't see the forest thru the trees.

Football season is officially here. :)

Hip-hip hooray. May the sun shine bright on our Orange this year and may Dino and his boys chart a season to remember.

But that would interfere with this intense rivalry.
Yup. That's the kind of idea boneheads come up with. When Uconn didn't come up to D1 football when the Bigeast was adding football it was really a short sighted bonehead play that in the long run helped the demise of the Bigeast conference. And when they sued the ACC and BC that also was quite boneheaded and helped keep them out of the ACC.

They can't fluff up their attendance anymore with teams coming in that actually draw fans and bring fans. The XL is a dump that is falling apart. Gampel is a nice little arena that harkens back to ECAC days. Unfortunately, Gampel isn't like Duke's small arena.

You know you have officially reached a new low when your women's team is outdrawing your men's team. Heads should be rolling.

To be fair, the UConn women's basketball team is a national brand and they are extremely talented and fun to watch.

No shame for a middle-of-the-road, mid-major men's team to not be able to stack up to them when it comes to attendance.

Now you almost sound like a Boneyarder. I went back five years and last year was the only year the girls had a higher attendance figure. Feel free to go back further. Here is the link. With the millions of dollars at stake in the men's game, there are no excuses for being outdrawn. They did the right thing in replacing Ollie.

I wrote the first paragraph only so I could write the second paragraph about the men’s team.

It was tongue in cheek.

Literally the ONLY thing they have over us is conference. That's it. Nothing else. Oh, and they have a bigger arena (but it's old).

  • They are in a god awful location. Without Boeheim, why would anyone want to go up to that shitehole?
  • They have a bit longer tradition, but with much less success less championships at every single level -- conf, conf tournament, NCAAs 4>1. Every non Syracuse basketball fan in the country wouldn't trade our history for their's.
  • They've got an old-arse HOF coach (which is fine in the short term) who plays an outdated system that does NOT develop guys for the pros defensively--see their moribund pro alumni list. Our pro alumni list is better.
  • The picker will probably kick the the bucket in a few years anyway. So they have that hanging over their head.
  • It will be BEUUUUUTIFUL if Gerry Mac takes over lol
  • They could very well go the way of BC.

Aaaay moqui sounds like this guys reading your posts.

look, if the were smart, they wouldn't have gone to UConn. For that moron's information, we had a much better all time record in the Big East. We have more final fours. We have dominated them head to head which is still the first tie breaker in any league any of us have ever played in. And we aren't going extinct like they are in their hoop league. Sooner or later, sooner I think, their hoop team will look a lot like their football team. Oh, and their empty court, is a joke.
