CO, I was probably right in front of you in the stands but unfortunately didn't get a chance to meet you. My kids were getting blown out -- got there at 2:45 and by the time the scrimmage started (almost 6:30), they were unmanageable. Dungey looked very good to me for a freshman, as did Fredericks. And we have some serious athletes on D ... the guys in the secondary may not be our most experienced group. But they close quickly, get in passing lanes and seem very disruptive.I was there the whole scrimmage and I know that Dungey is a freshman but based on what I saw, I think he should be the #2 on the roster. He did some freshman things but has all the tools and looks like he is the future along with AJ and Culpepper. I would have to consider him the front runner for the job next year.
Same. I cannot imagine a circumstance in which Wilson is the starter. He's slow and doesn't make particularly good decisions. I realize he can get better, and he's got a strong arm...but he's not remotely suited for the offense that Lester wants to run, because he can't, well, RUN.I will be shocked if Wilson is the starter next year
Jeff, I was there and am disappointed I didn't get the chance to meet you in person. Lunch was fun, got to catch up with Cuseregular, TexanMark, Shennexon, TomCat and OrangeExtreme (and LincolnCuse later). What an outstanding FanFest this year. Not only did the team put on a great show, I thought the AD was on its game also. Something for all ages, great open access to SU's facilities, a sense of the history of SU FB enriched even more by the attendance of several former players.Same. Ha - I wasn't there, actually. I wish I could have been, but the trek from Texas is a little tough for me!Jeff, I was there and am disappointed I didn't get the chance to meet you in person. Oh ok, I saw an aerial pic you posted and thought you were on hand. How in the heck did you manage to deploy and control (from Texas) a quadcopter over the scrimmage field?Ha - I wasn't there, actually. I wish I could have been, but the trek from Texas is a little tough for me!
Dcuse said:Wow. I've been to all of these pre-season scrimmages in the past and can honestly say that this is thee most productive I've ever seen the offense. Lot of big runs despite a very vanilla design with no deception. Only an unconditional Hunt detractor could look at that and summarize his play the way you did here. He fitted several balls in to pretty good coverage and made a great play off of a bad snap. I thought he played pretty darn good. Ying and yang I guess
Should be fun next year with Dungey, Womack, Culpepper, Wilson, Mahoney, & who knows who else with a chance become the starting QB. Personally, I like Dungey as the starter with Womack as a WR. We really could use both those guys on the field. Mahoney seems small and Wilson has the most experience but perhaps not the upside potential of some of the newer guys. Culpepper seems to have great potential but will be playing catchup. All I can say is that options are great things and we have several players that could be at least decent QB's.
The Dungey film I've seen shows the ability to get the ball well down field with some accuracy, a skill we haven't excelled at. They showed very little downfield at Fanfest so didn't get much perspective on Saturday. I hope the ACL heals well for Culpepper and would love to see him competitive in the spring. It would be nice to have to multiple good options, no matter who starts.I watched a couple of Plant games earlier this summer after Culpepper committed, after Rex's comments about Lester's offense being so similar to what he runs in high school. So I watched the games just to potentially get a glimpse of what we might expect.
I was very impressed with Culpepper. And it is important to also note that he was playing at a very highly competitive level of Florida football, not just him being a stud athlete out there against inferior competition. He'll have to bounce back from the ACL injury, and obviously there will be a learning curve. But I really like his capabilities. Kid has a ton of potential, and he'll be more prepared than many incoming frosh QBs due to the level of competition he's faced, and the great athletes he plays with. I don't think the transition to the next level will be as steep for him as it is for most QBs. Him enrolling early will also be of benefit, even if he isn't 100% physically. Him being able to go through spring practice will help to accelerate his learning curve as a QB.
I'm not suggesting that he is going to start in 2016, but I'd be really surprised if he isn't a three year starter.
Regardless, it is great to hear that Dungey flashed potential. I think we've got some nice pieces in the pipeline [between Wilson, Long, Culpepper, and Dungey]. I think we're going to be all right at QB.
Just need one of them to pan out and be above average; doesn't matter which one. May the best player win.
All those things and worse were said about Nassib. Neither you nor anyone else has seen enough to know what he will become. We will see.Hopefully the only time we see Wilson in the next 2 years is mop up duty, he has no presence in the pocket, stays locked onto one receiver, and can't move. Allen could throw the ball well, but didn't have the ability to run a team, and neither does Wilson.
Yes I know, but by next year things might look different. We really need WR with speed and height. Dungey has both as well as hands. Personally, I think the saffron recruited them both with the idea of giving them a shot atDungey looks like a WR? We just moved another QB recruit to WR.
Call me crazy, but I don't think the staff will move both.
Wilson will be the starter next year IMO. He is the only guy that can throw down field with accuracy - which he did yesterday again.
He has another year to learn. Dungey looks like a WR to me.

QB, but with a view thar they would wind up at wr. Just seems if you can't recruit wr's you make them.
SUFan44 said:Need a QB more than we need WR's. And we need a good athlete at the QB position, too. If, as you say, Dungey is moved to WR. That would leave us Wilson, Long, Culpepper at the position. Plus whoever else they might recruit. Wilson has shown nothing other than a strong arm. Long has shown that he may or may not be able to play at the highest level, but that he does not have plus athleticism and does not have plus height. And Culpepper may be the most promising but he'll be coming off a torn ACL. Honestly, I'm not sure how a fan seeing Dungey doesn't see the potential for him to jump in and start next year after a redshirt. At QB.
Agree.
Dungey throws and runs better than anyone on our roster (though Hunt is uncanny for a big guy running)... He just needs time. Culpepper might come in and push him. But Dungeys head start might be enough.
I wanted to note I loved that they had a season ticket holder viewing section close to the team, would love if they brought in some bleachers for that side, started over there but needed to move to the stands to get a better view.
