Ohio Tailgate Sept 4th, 2021

Looking to get into town (Parkersburg) Friday evening if work goes the way I want it.

Not sure yet what me and the wife have planned as of yet but if anything cool is going on let us know!
I think you guys would hit it off with Chris (CJ)...if it wasn't 45 mins away...I'd join you. I expect I will be at a sports bar in Athens Friday night watching a couple games.

see above for some recommendations, shoot me a message if you guys want to get together.
Good deal. Yes the Blenny and Wingate are two options I have been looking at, hopefully book tonight. There are a couple of cheaper places but whatever, not truly too significant. Only doing Sat night, driving down from Akron early afternoon.

Wait...were you the Akron fan who played Kenny's Two Pennies for us in the Akron parking lot? ;)

My brother and his wife are looking to go to game. What section are you guys sitting in?

I made reservations for Jackie O's on Union Street in the early afternoon before we head over to the tailgate. It looks like capacity is somewhat limited because of popularity and restrictions. If anyone is interested in going before making a Fine Mess for most of the afternoon, I'd recommend looking into holding a table.

FWIW: We are kicking off the tailgate in earnest by 3pm...

We have a sixtel of craft beer, LaBatts, etc...so don't stay too long there

Come hungry too...

I'd like to say we'll be there...but usually pre-tailgate last minute running around is an issue.
Do you have a tailgate/parking location yet, last I heard you were thinking golf and tennis center? I see the center itself is closed thru the 5th of September, bathrooms might not be open.

I've sent out numerous emails...are you not getting them?

I also sent out the tickets

Lot 90 next to Morton Hall

I would stay at the blenny or the wingate by wyndham for the game (blennerhasset is short for blenny) if you do stay at the blenny, the restaurant inside the blennerhasset is really good (spats), there is also the cocktail bar which is walking distance from the blennerhasset, parkersburg brewing company as well is right there (all 3 very good picks to eat from). if you are staying in marietta, i would recommend the lafayette hotel as it is direct walking distance to downtown, parkersburg typically has more chain restaurants (some hidden gems that are listed above) but marietta blows them out with locally owned spots, harmar tavern has the best beer, and fried bologna sandwiches, boathouse bbq is good, busy bee restaurant has a nice back patio as well, 740 social is good, marietta brewing company is good, the galley is good as well. when and if you guys get into town friday night, and you want to link up send me a message, and we can get together as well.
we are staying at the Hampton Inn in Parkersburg

We are going to be behind the SU bench. Tix cost $25 each plus tailgate costs...will get final total next week
We are making a BJ's run tomorrow. You have us listed to get soda & water. Is there anything else you would like us to get or will need for the tailgate. Do you need us to bring a table and/or our tailgate grill? We have a corn hole board, but it is not SU:confused:. We have bulldogs, so we went with Butler, & use SU bags:p. We can bring that if there is interest. We are arriving on Thursday and staying at a hotel in Athens, so perishable food is probably out. We'll be able to help setup on game day. Looking forward to opening day and watching college football again.

$37.50 ticket, food, beer/seltzer
$32.50 ticket, food and non alcoholic drinks

Looking forward to seeing some of you tomorrow night and more Saturday! A couple things that may interest some:
  • There is a shuttle from the tailgate lot. But after reviewing the shuttle route and having made that walk close to a 1,000 times I would say it might be quicker walking. The stadium is an easy 5-7 minute stroll.
  • While Athens is a little hilly it will be nothing to anyone used to SU and the whole university area is walkable. No hills from lot to stadium.
  • If hills aren't your thing there is 3-story escalator in Baker Center that brings you from stadium/arena level and drops you off at the beginning of Court Street up top.
  • I suggest a stroll down Court St whether it's before or after the game. I'm not sure if it's still true but they used to have the most number of bars in a 3-4 block strip in the country. They won't all be packed but the most popular CI, Crystal Casino, J Bar, Pawpurrs and Red Brick Tavern will all have lines in the evening. Pigskin Bar and Grille is best Sports Bar but does turn into a college bar late night. Those are all in the same block and the rest of Court St is a little more spread out. Looking for a quiet place and/or live music check out The Union. I have unfortunately confirmed they no longer have $1.50 pitchers of Genesee as they did my freshman year! Union is right by Jackie O's.
  • If you're not looking for fine dining just hit the Burrito or Bagel Buggy at the College Gate. Or pick up some of the worlds best chicken livers, gizzards and hearts from Millers Poultry. (You'll have to drive there.) Late night I can attest that DP Dough delivers calzones and wings until at least 4am.
  • My son worked games at Peden the last few years and says our seats will be great. Major kudos to TexanMark!
Lastly, I almost forgot...an extra bonus of our seat location is that the "Most Exciting Band in the Land", the OU Marching 110 will be sitting right behind us! The last pic I saw showed 20 tubas! LGO!

Nice info.

It has been a while since I saw and heard a live college marching band. Excited to see what these kids can do.

What is the big food specialty that I have to try in Athens?

Please don’t tell me it is chicken livers and chicken gizzards!

You had me up until the chicken guts. I guess after all those bars anything is possible.

Definite thanks to TexanMark and everyone that helps put these trips together. I look forward to meeting everyone and getting to know a few people before I make the move back to Syracuse.

Driving down from Akron tomorrow. Trying to get an early check in at hotel in Parkersburg (closer to 2 than 3) to drop my stuff before I drive over for game.

Hey all You Ohio tailgaters. One of our own tailgaters CJMurray34 and his young son where shown in an extended closeup on the CBS Telecast of the game. It's right at the end of halftime. Great Shot. maybe some body can post a clip of it
Go Cuse
