I’ve been in the Red needs 3 years camp, but I just deserted. We’re going no place but downhill fast. The only question in my mind is what can we do to stop the slide before it becomes an avalanche.

I’ve seen a lot of speculation about the Colgate coach, or the Arkansas St cosch, but in my mind that’s the wrong way to go. We need a new coach to do essentially four things: Retain the current talent, particularly Freeman and Moore. Continue our hs recruiting at the current level. Use the portal to bring in proven D1 level talent. And, in order to do the above things, excite and activate the fan base and more particularly the nil donor class.

To do that, I feel we need a coach with a proven track record and a rep. Someone who will excite the big money guys. I hate Pitino and Pearl with a burning passion, but that’s the kind of guy we need. Hire another mid-major guy and I fear we’ll be wandering in the desert like the Israelites for severa more years, and I’m too old for that.

I know the question is how could we afford it. Wish I had an easy answer. Maybe consult with Melo and Lala. Maybe go hat in hand to Weisman. Maybe go to every alum worth million or more and beg. But if we want to be relevant in this decade, we need to do something dramatic.

End of rant.

Sounds like your asking for Jay Wright or Billy Donovan but we may need to settle for Bob Huggins or Jamie Dixon.

I'm only half serious but at this point I don't know whats left to say.

We need a coach that recruits the right players & whom can coach. A hard nosed coach. Would prefer a young coach. Do not want a retread.

There's a fifth thing we need a new coach to be able to do: coach.

I did what you're doing but before today's game. I never turned it on. Checked the halftime score and shook my head.

You can't quit because YOU'RE FIRED.

Not really, that just always happens on TV. Seemed like the appropriate thing to say but now that I've said it I don't feel good about it.

Huggins would be phenomenal as an assistant, especially if it's someone fairly young like Hodgson or Ben McCollum. He's a player's coach and teaches great D.

I gave up on watching another game. Already postponed it while watching some CFP, a couple minutes into the 2nd half as it got to 30 I just fast forwarded to the final score. I didn't want my kids to see it and subject them to it.

Not many young coaches who have proven they can recruit ACC level players. Most successful mid-major teams have mostly mid-major level talent, like Carlos, Taylor and Davis. Red Auerbach and John Wooden couldn’t coach them to an NCAA tournament level. Need someone who’s proven as yes, a coach first, but also a successful high major recruiter.

I've pretty much given up on watching any games live this year. Just too frustrating/depressing and not helpful for my blood pressure. If they win, I'll watch a replay, otherwise, I skip it. On the plus side, I find I'm getting a lot more free time this year.

I never thought I'd say this but...yes to Pitino. He flat out knows how to coach and bring in talent.
In that case, lets hope Gmac finds success and is ready when Pitino retires.
I predicted a lil while back Pitino to Cuse after next year, Gmac to St. johns and then Gmac to Cuse when Pitinos done. * probably more like a thought than an actual prediction.

It’s really sad. I winter tradition is just being erased from my routine . I used to live for this stuff. I can’t tell you how far removed my interest in these games is versus let’s say Gary grant and Glenn rice coming into the done in the 80’s. Now some of that is just the landscape of college ball. But alot of it is program specific

I didn’t even bother to turn it on.

Only watched a few mins vs GTown.

Cuse hoops used to be appointment viewing for me.

It’s sad.
I left it on but cut the sound because I could see all the mistakes, the intercepted passes, missed shots, turnovers - they had 25 PTS off our turnovers.

I've been watching these guys play, highly anticipating the game, since Dave and Jim started playing in Manley - I would not miss a game from then till now - today I really didn't give a damn. There is no progress to the team. 87 - 60 a 27 point margin. We surely needed JJ today and until he can play, I feel we aren't going to win. Maybe even with him we aren't.

I’m with you. I got there at the end of the ND game when he was so lost.

I only caught the last 3 mins of Gtown because I was in a bar that had it on.

There is zero reason to watch this team. They’re a train wreck and life is too short to waste time on them.

we have talented players. why they don't play to those skill levels or work as a unit is the issue.

People please stop looking to the past for solutions to the future coach.

Fran Brown has given us a playbook. Just run with it. Get a recruiter who has discipline and will not sleep or shower until he wins.
Fran brown also wasn’t going to be the coach either. JW listened thankfully and it’s worked out. I think people are delusional on who they think this program can get. Is it a brand sure. But this thought that they could get someone from a great program is insanity. The opportunity to hire Nate Oats was there and they didn’t do it. And that’s the whiff here. Adrian is not working right now and that’s obvious. But there is a zero percent chance they are getting someone “well known”

Don’t see why. Many P5 schools have hired well known coaches. Rolling the dice with a “proven recruiter” who hasn’t recruited ACC level talent is questionable. We need a name that recruits recognize, because the SU brand doesn’t really resonate with high school guys now, since they were in grade school when we were a top 10 program.

I love Gmac, Hop, and Red as former players, don't want to see any of them as our Head Coach. You stay in house when things are going well, not when the wheels are coming off.

The Syracuse Basketball brand is severely damaged. We are a decade past real relevancy and a misfit in a conference that is on the hanging on to life by lawyers. And as those in the know have been sharing lately, aging facilities, lack of funds, and university leadership that doesn't seem to be serious about competing.

Some of those issues are structural it sounds like, we may not ever get back to where we were.
