I agree, football has been lackluster. However, if the government is getting involved, and they have started, New York's two senators and 26 congressional members form a block to possess on your side of an argument in congress.
Politically, the block cannot be ignored under any circumstances. The House of Representatives has 435 members, a majority of 218 can carry the day in the House. NY affords a 10%+ block of votes that is simply too important to ignore. For the P2 arguments, there is no justification to ignore the block, especially when UW, UO, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Vandy, Mizzou, the Mississippi schools, etc., are a part of the block. At worst, they get a body bag game with a large state population and a nice congressional delegation block. Essentially, SU only provides upside.
