Okay, so the Canadian tour is over. What have we learned?

Sell short? Don't you mean misrepresent facts? Like "all" the turnovers?

Like I said.

It's good to know that when we err, we will have you to straighten us out. :)

Someone has to point things out when the fan base has chosen their whipping boy for the year.

Funny how everyone defends and lauds JB but every year there is a starter that the fan base determines isn't a quality player even though the coaches who see these guys every day and know what it takes to mesh together a team from all aspects, not just a stat, have determined said player is a starter.

I'm not sure they've determined that Cooney will the starter yet but if they do, their determination commands respect, as you suggest. My criticism of Cooney, (which,a s I noted was done without a box score), was largely based on one play but also Leo Rautins' extended criticism of that play. His opinion also commands respect.

Btw, my comment wasn't directed at you specifically and not to anyone actually. But you can tell who the whipping boy will be. It's many of the same people who were 100% sure G would be a stud yet there was nothing to go on and he hadn't played game 1 for SU yet.

A mediocre Duke team that produced Austin Rivers and Kyrie Irving.

Name one su guard in the past 5 years who'd start over those two at Duke.
Well, one of MCW or DW. How many games did Irving play again. 11
It was Rivers, Curry & Cook.
2nd to last man on the bench in terms of minutes and games, ahead of one Todd Zafirovski.
I hope the kid is great. Just did not show me much. Tough circumstances to be sure.

there actually is something to go on. He practiced all last year and some saw those practices all last year.

Very few saw but a couple practices. And one that did see a few practices said he was good bit those expecting Wes were going to be disappointed.

G doesn't have to be a star. If he's backing up the point, as seems to be the staff's plan, he only has to play 5-10 mpg (max). During that time, I doubt JB is expecting (or even needing) him to light it up offensively. All he has to do is run the offense and apply ball pressure at the top of the zone. He's still learning the defense, but he has excellent length and moves his feet well for a 6'7 player. I'm not sure when or if his outside shot will develop ... but as a PG backup logging fairly minimal minutes, he doesn't need to shoot it like Southerland.

As far as the 2-guard, it's shaping up to be a fascinating battle. Obviously, I like what I've seen from BJ. But it's early. He could go 1-10 in a game an his percentage would drop down to 30%. However, if he remains consistent (which is the intriguing possibility that has some of us salivating), then he's going to put pressure on TC's minutes.

I'd love for TC to shake the jitters that seem to plague his game. At this point, in his third year in the program, I would have expected him to have a lot more in-game confidence. But let's see what happens. He'll have to improve to keep his starting spot, and if he does, BJ is a nice option off the bench.

I don't see jitters. What defines jitters? Missing? The only important 3 he took, he drilled.

G sure looked good on those high school tapes on You-Tube. But those wee high school tapes. I didn't see the practices. In Canada G looked like a useful, Jack-of-all-trades player but didn't shoot well. He's probably better coming off the bench for now. Johnson is a firecracker but very raw. I'd agree that Cooney is the starter for now but that could change if either of the other tow come on strong.

Fall practice hasn't even begun yet. The starting line up isn't in crayon, much less stone.

Mike Waters had a much more positive review based upon last season's practices / this summer practices. I'm confident in his assessment.

Regardless, the off guard seems like the team's lone unproven position--will shape up as an interesting battle. Those looking to BJ are prematurely writing off Cooney / Gbinije.
