G doesn't have to be a star. If he's backing up the point, as seems to be the staff's plan, he only has to play 5-10 mpg (max). During that time, I doubt JB is expecting (or even needing) him to light it up offensively. All he has to do is run the offense and apply ball pressure at the top of the zone. He's still learning the defense, but he has excellent length and moves his feet well for a 6'7 player. I'm not sure when or if his outside shot will develop ... but as a PG backup logging fairly minimal minutes, he doesn't need to shoot it like Southerland.
As far as the 2-guard, it's shaping up to be a fascinating battle. Obviously, I like what I've seen from BJ. But it's early. He could go 1-10 in a game an his percentage would drop down to 30%. However, if he remains consistent (which is the intriguing possibility that has some of us salivating), then he's going to put pressure on TC's minutes.
I'd love for TC to shake the jitters that seem to plague his game. At this point, in his third year in the program, I would have expected him to have a lot more in-game confidence. But let's see what happens. He'll have to improve to keep his starting spot, and if he does, BJ is a nice option off the bench.
