Ok now I have a question for all of you. This is our first go around with this process I'm assuming some of you have been riding the highs and lows of this process a few times any way. Shy and I are wondering where are we in this process. When we were at sparq a recruitment assistance company was asking me if shy had any offers when I told him yes he said "Oh if you have one this early you are all set" then when we meet with some coaches they say " only one offer? You guys should grab it now before you lose it" some kids are told this is early for offers some are told all serious offers are out before the quiet period. It doesn't really matter to shy he has the Attention of the only places that matter. But there is 2 kids in shys team that are really good players and have had any offers yet so I am more own drug for them.
And don't worry Shys commitment timing won't change due to answers... Just curios
First off, shy's commitment timing should be based on when he's ready not for other reasons. Sounds like thats covered.
Second, I would say the different coaches you are talking to are all about different "talent" in players. Guys who are used to kids with several offers, would say to you take the offer and secure a spot. Guys who deal with kids with few offers realize an offer this early in the process is likely not going anywhere any time soon, so you can take your time and explore the process.
I'm still new at this, but I would say that there are generally 4 rounds of offers made.
Round 1, the teams identify their guys that they really love early in the process and offers are made before the start of the summer camp session. For lack of a better way to say it, these are the guys who blossom early and are the most wanted by a school.
Round 2, during camp/directly following camp season - This is the group of kids schools either didn't know about, or needed further information on to determine they wanted them (how big are they really? how fast are they? are they coachable? did that make big steps since the end of seasons?) These kids can easily vault into the most wanted category.
Round 3 , first few weeks of the senior season - these are the kids the school didn't know existed, or were kids sitting behind somebody else in the past and are now making a name for themselves. Also this is probably the time staffs start to develop "backup lists" for the players that they like, but do not love. Some offers are starting to be made to those kids as the "elite" kids start committing elsewhere.
Round 4, last dash - Recruiting cycle is almost over, you need a few additional bodies and this is usually where the "undiscovered" talent and sleeper prospects get offers, as teams try to make sure they fill their class and they probably put out a considerable amount of conditional offers at this point to cover their bases.
I would also say sometime between rounds 3 and 4 offers start going out to the kids with academic issues that have a shot at qualifying.
Obviously their is wiggle room all throughout this process, but I assume this is mostly on point.
Like I said, I am still new to this, and would like others to weigh in.
