@bambrewer if I have time, I have to study
Ha,Ha...Love it.
Funny thing about this is when we went to sparq in Dallas when we finished up we had like 10 hrs to kill before our flight out and I said to him hey six flags is right across the street want to go? He says no let's go visit tcu I got a letter from them and want to see the campus. Ok we go to tcu. We finish up there I said hey we have like 7 more hours wanna go to six flags now he says no let's go to see where JFK was shot I just learned about that in school this week. Dang kid is always ruining my fun.

I just saw where Miami and Purdue started following Shy on twitter.

It is he was like I can't believe a school that far away knows me... It is very exciting for a 16 yearold kid

This thread may be my all-time favorite. Mr Cullen, your son's best fit is at Syracuse. No biases here or anything. ;)

Seriously, you partner up Shy with a class-act, defensive guru in Coach Shafer, and it would be special to watch. Cheers!

From everything shy has seen and heard is say you are correct he has loved all the coaches he has talked to so far

That's the day he will be attending the camp and seeing the campus and com... Errr seeing syracuse

I just want to say that I have thoroughly enjoyed chatting with you and getting to know all about Shy. Very impressed with him. Whatever his decision I wish him and y'all the best and will continue to follow him regardless. But he certainly looks good in Orange.:)

Yeah I have to say finding this site has been quite helpful for me and Shy's mom. We have gotten a lot of info on the school and staff here it's been great!

This site is my favorite past time at home and at work. I have lost many work hours to this site. We have a great bunch of admins and fans who make this what it is. It is even better when we are able to get inside information from parents like yourself and Mr. Johnson (BJ's dad). Like CL said, Shy seems like a very impressive young man; especially after the start he had. I really wish him the best in his football career and in life. I really hope he chooses SU though. My daughter goes to SU, my son will go starting in August and almost all of my money will go there as well. My kids weren't blessed with athletic ability that translates to a division 1 schlorship.

I'm pretty sure shy will be at syracuse... Some one asked him last night and he said he was 92.86 percent sure he was commiting to syracuse. I can't imagine paying for college now a days. With 9 kids we told em your kinda on your own. My oldest graduated from umass lowell she paid her way. Next two went to community college and paid own way. Shy is the first one we are dealing with a big time school for. I'm hoping he goes and does well and can put in a good word for the 14 yearold coming up next. My 14 yearold is attending a football camp at bc June 24 to 27. They had asked shy to attend it but he was busy all the dates they had... One of the camps at bc he is missing is because he will be at syracuse. But last night a bunch of colleges said they would be at the bc camp Ryan is attending and asked if shy would be there. It's during the week when shy is working for the police dept so we will probably go up after dinner to meet the coaches working g the camp. Hopefully shy will draw enough attention to get Ryan noticed lol.

I read more than I post on here but this has been, hands down, the most enjoyable recruit thread to read. I love stories like Shy's (aka Shamarko, Bromley, Hunt, Raymon etc). Seems like you have a great kid on your hands and while Syracuse is getting back to where they were in terms of football, academically it is quite the school. To get a full ride to a school like Syracuse is quite the blessing. Hopefully the stars all align and he can be the next great linebacker here in the mold of Dan Conley, Keith Bullock, Morlon Greenwood, etc.

I loved Marrone as a coach as he righted the ship after we hit the Grob iceberg, but Shafer has us headed back to the glory days and I am quite confident before Shy is done on the hill he will be competing for ACC championships.

Hey now ... I saw that picture with Ryan with that football trophy. ;)

Yes Ryan has played football since he was 7 his team over 7 seasons lost only 9 regular season games with 4 undefeatd seasons. They won the eastern ma and mass state championship 2 years in a row and were 2 games away from playing for a national title this year when injuries took over. Ryan has played every position on the field and gets the advantage of having to keep up with shy on our park workouts a couple times a week... Unfortunately Ryan is my biological son and doesn't have the same genes as shy lol. I am hoping for a big growth spurt like I had. If he can get the size maybe shy can play his senior year as Ryan plays his freshman at syracuse!

BC? Wait they still play football? I kid, I kid ... I am glad he is choosing Cuse to visit, I've been a Cuse follower since I was 6 and have lived and died with a lot of games there. Someday my perspective might be that of the one you have now, I will let my kids carve their own path but will always nudge them towards SU if need be :) I just know for me watching games was something I did with my dad for over 20 years and now that I live 1000 miles away I just get the obligatory call from my mom or dad going ... did you see that game???? I made it my mission to get my degree there and did (a B.S. in comp sci) and was able to parlay that into a decent career. I just know that aside from marriage and children the 4 years I spent there were the best of my life for many reasons, I learned about life and since I paid my own way through loans, scholarships and working I wasn't afraid to grind hard in the real world after I graduated. A guy like Shafer is really important, kids need strong pillars like him and yourself in their lives ... I was fortunate to have good parents and a high school math teacher who pushed me harder then any coach I ever had and helped me identify what I wanted to do with my life.

When you truly put all that you are into a place like SU it does become a part of your fabric and I'm willing to bet that not only will it do for Shy what it has done for me but it will carry the same meaning. I'm glad that he will be a part of the resurrection of a proud and strong program and one that fits the persona of the region and the people that stand behind it.

That was a better response than I could hope for.

Where did Shy come up with the 92.86% from? Any actual rationale, or just pulling a number out of the air?

As others have said, I am happy to have learned this much about Shy, it's not so often we get this type of insight into a future SU player. We have a basketball version in BJ Johnson right now, and presumably Shy eventually for football.

Hopefully the relationship between Shy, your family and SU continues to grow to the point everyone is happy to see him headed to the Cuse.

Best of luck to Ryan as he continues to get prepped for his hopeful attempt at playing D1 over the next couple years.

Yeah the 92.86 percent was me sitting next to him when he was being interviewed by text. He asked me what he should tell the guy and I said tell him you 92.86 percent sure and see what he says. Then shy said but it's more like 98 and I said 98 just doesn't have a good ring to it. It's the little things that amuse me...lol. You know it's funny when shy got the offer I was searching the internet for stuff about it and I found this page and I wAs reading along seeing what people had to say. And I started thinking what was I going to do if people started saying he didn't look like a good prospect? So I sat by and reAd along for a while. Then I saw people starting to question why he wasn't getting. Offered and the speculation started to get moving. Plus the bad sparq score was coming out and the speculation on that would start. So I talked to shy and said I thought we may want to be up front and tell what his side was. He and I both agreed the truth would be better than people guessing that it would be better to put out the facts that academically he was borderline. Thankfully things have gone 180 degrees from there this quarter. But I have to tell you its a tonite of pressure on these kids. Shy has gotten some pretty good reviews but I can't imagine these kids that dominate there home division and are feeling pretty good then stumble across someone saying he looks small he's pretty slow etc. then you have the pressure of when to commit ... Is this this best option for me can I go somace better . Shy is sweating the day he has to call the other coaches and say sorry I'm commiting to .... Today thanks for everything. That's a pretty big deal to shy right now. He was just asking me what is he going to tell the other schools . Or after he commits what will he say if another school offers... These are things he is really worried about. I just told him relax enjoy the ride and we will work on a speech for the other teams lol
