Class of 2015 OLB Shyheim (Shy) Cullen (MA) Signed LOI

Unh plus I got a fifty dollar ticket for parking in a faculty lot that I never saw the sign in. I told them he isn't going there unless I get my fifty bucks back

I don't suppose the coaches sent you the $50? haha

No I'm sure they would hide behind some ncaa rule

Now that you point that out, they probably couldn't "legally" get you your funds back. But I suppose the institution could get away with a reimbursement for a faulty parking ticket.

But Screw whatever university that was, Shy isn't going there anyways.

Lol that's true

I meant pull it from someone after he gives a verbal commitment

Schools do what they did to Alin Edouard last year. UM got a commitment from Brad Kaaya and I think someone else, but Edouard committed first. They basically just ignored him for the next 2 months to the point where the kid didn't feel wanted. It's not a pretty business.

True but if Edouard had chosen to stay committed and said FU and thrown up the double bird to the Canes, they would have had to take him wouldn't they?

I don't suppose you'd be willing to tell us after Shy is committed wherever it is he goes and the season is underway? Obviously we will understand if you choose not to, it just would be nice to know if it's a school we already consider worthless, or if it is a school we thought deserved respect.

I'm pretty sure you will know... Miami wants him at a camp this coming Saturday but air fare is quickly getting out of my price range. But even that he is saying he wants to go see them but doesn't think it's a place for him. They keep sending pictures of the city and the beach saying come to camp... But he isn't feeling that connection he has with the syracuse coaches he's met

No. Until a NLI is signed neither party is contractually obligated to the other side although there are possible public relations concerns for the school if they pull offers late to orally committed players.

I was talking about the PR thing I know nobody is bound to anything until the NLI is signed.

So as far as Shy's concerned it would be a weekend beach vacay with a little work in the middle? I could deal with that as a young kid and those Floridian women on the beach...

Well miami has always been that dream college kinda thing. When he was young he would always say he was gonna be a hurricane. If he played ncaa on the xbox he was always miami. I think now that he is older and has a better understanding that the dream of miami isn't the same as the wise choice for football and school. But you sit and watch football life miami hurricanes and see the late 80s hurricanes with deon sanders and them it's hard to say yeah I could play there but I'm gonna do the smart thing... I know id be on the beach lol

Same here, there is no doubt there.

Deion Sanders would be pretty pissed if he read this :)

Lol let me rewrite that part... Late 80s hurricanes rivalry with fsu and Deion sanders... That's just embarrassing

Changing subject to avoid further viewing of past statements... I was just on hudl and realized shys junior year highlights have been viewed 1200 times but his sophomore year only had like 400. If you like watching film check this one out. In some ways I like watching this year better. They didn't know who he wAs and wasn't being double and triple teamed all season. Plus he likes it because he spent a lot more time at running back as the regular back was hurt most of the season.

Going off the premise that Syracuse is on the rise and will back to a perennial top 25 team by the time Shy graduates, how much does potential opponents weigh in the recruiting process?

In otherwards, is Shy looking forward to being part of a Cuse team to potentially take down LSU 2015 & 2017, Notre Dame 2016, and IF he red shirts Penn State 2020 vs playing on a team that never really challenges themselves out of conference?
Likewise, how does knowing he'll have a shot at FSU, Clemson yearly and Va Tech 2016, Miami 2017, etc. effect things?

Honestly it doesn't. We have looked more at what academically is best first. Ability of program to grow shy as a player second. Third roster to see what playing time shy could expect given he performs well. Fourth ability of pro future given past nfl alumni. It will be great to play those teams and get the big stage. But if the other stuff isn't there it wouldn't matter. Of course being on a team gaining in the rankings is always nice.

So it kind of goes to number 4. Obviously you've got your priorities straight 1-3 and hoping you see SU as checking all those boxes. #4, I feel is helped by nationally televised games and the fact that NFL teams will be looking at performances vs bigger name teams vs how he does against lessor knowns. The Spruill and Bromley highlights online were vs Penn State, FSU, and Clemson.

Yes tv may help and good performances against strong opponents go along way. But I always looked at it more as a respect nfl coaches have for the college staff and program. You see kids from division 2 schools being selected and I have always felt it spoke more to the program and individual player.

Bam, check out who makes the last catch. We've got a pretty cool head coach, huh?:

Yeah I had retweeted that early to show someone... I wasn't sure at first if that was him. It's great he has that relationship with the players.
