One thing we could really use is a power back

I am not sure that fits our offense. Are we even recruiting one?

I don't think that's why we've missed on these close games.

Having the ability to run plays from under center would be helpful as well.

I don't think it's that big a problem

This is just making me really wish that we'd recruited Devine Ozigbo last year. He'd be absolutely, 100% perfect for this role. He's playing as a true freshman for Nebraska.

Didn't they recruit Tyler Provo as a FB/TE? If I'm not mistaken he was a top 5 FB coming out of high school?

I have a hard time believing that he was top 5 in the entire country.

If we had a better line, it wouldn't matter. But in the current offense, picking up one yard means holding blocks for a long time while the back runs seven yards to the line of scrimmage. A power back with a quick-hitting play-call would work better inside the five and on third and short.

For what it's worth, I think Jordan Fredericks has good enough feet/vision and enough strength to be able to pick up short yardage...but we just don't run him out of formations that are really built for it.

and yet 3 stars?
Fullbacks are like kickers when it comes to star ratings. The best almost never get above 3-stars. Fullbacks are getting so phased out of football that there really just aren't that many to begin with.

Not saying Provo wasn't a good fullback in high school, but it's kind of like being one of the best lugers in the country. So few people do it, how can you really judge how good they are?

I don't think they grade FB position to highly. 3 star seems to be the high. I took a look at these FB's and none are higher then 3.

I think that it may very well have cost us 7 points (and the game) last week against UVa

Unless it happened on the final play it didn't cost us the game. And unless you have super powers involving different time continuums, you don't know it would've worked.

Yes, I don't know with 100% certainty that it would've worked, which is why I specifically stated "I think" that running out of the shotgun from the .5 yard line against UVa cost us 7 points.

I also think that your first point is asinine.

Mentioned in another thread but I liked seeing him in the wildcat in short yardage situations. Kid shows great vision and can take the snap, find the seam and hit it. Haven't seen it since LSU though, have we?

He was in the Wildcat down inside the 5 yesterday on one possession at least. Didn't get much out of it, mainly because we tried to go off left tackle if I remember correctly.

That's what I get for trying to watch the game on my phone hidden under the table at my niece's wedding reception. ;-)
