Orange Fizz on Brissett, Guerrier and Battle

I don't disagree. But if it was OK for Dion to come off the bench and still be the number 6 player in the draft, it wouldn't kill Buddy. His "per 40" averages above are based on playing less than half the game. With increased usage, and being more tired, he might not match the numbers he put up as a part-time player.
The bold is pretty irrelevant imo.

Wanting to start freshmen with unknown college ability vs Buddy is insane.

Freshman have to show JB they can play defense. That is likely not going to happen consistently for any of them until the conference season starts.

So you want to play a promising freshman who is still playing inconsistently instead of Buddy who has the simple ability of not making very many mistakes!!??

Bottom line is he shot 41% from 3 in ACC play. If you're going to use that logic wouldn't it make sense that Carey doesn't start either as he will probably face the most pressure of anyone next year?

41% from 3 in conference play is about what our best shooters of all time have maxed out at. The fact that Buddy did that as a freshman? His stroke is effortless and pure. Sky is the limit. We should be thrilled to finally have a shooter like this.

Nothing is ever a lock, but Buddy seems a really good bet this year to be around 40% from 3, double figures scoring, low turnovers, good shot selection and decisions with the ball...I mean, why wouldn’t he start? He’s the only guard on the roster who has done a thing at this level.

The bold is pretty irrelevant imo.

Yeah. Dion only came off the bench because Scoop and Triche were both 3 year starters at that point.

We don’t have a 5th year senior who has been productive since his soph. season or a junior who has started since day 1 of his freshman year keeping Buddy on the bench.

I still think Hughes is our best shooter, but Buddy is right there with him. Hughes, to this point, has been more consistent than Buddy. But Buddy is a clutch shooter and can change a game, no question.

I think Hughes has more ability to hit them off the dribble, from deeper, and with somebody right on him.

I think in a contest of catch and shoot open 3’s, Buddy would win.

Both should hit a ton of them next year.

Buddy can shoot lights out...the balance of his game needs work, hopefully he continues to improve, there’s not another school in the acc where he is a starting guard let alone playing 30 minutes, he is an liability on defense or at least he was last season.
the thing about most of your takes, including this one, is they're of a low quality

So, based on this chart, Braswell should be our go-to guy and leading scorer next year :)

Seems like whenever we have a local player on the team who does well, some people on the board do back flips to try and bring them down.

Just to add a few facts to this discussion about Buddy, here is how the team did last season in key measurables, based on production over 40 minutes:

That's kind of a dick post.

I think he makes lots of good posts. Just look at his likes to posts ratio.

Just because you don't agree doesn't make it a "low quality" post.

Fair enough. But in this case, i think he’s right.
To suggest that Buddy “wouldn’t start on any team in the ACC, let alone get 30 minutes”, is ludicrous. Actually his response is a lot better than mine would’ve been. JMHO

If not for Buddy would Hughes be the starting 2?

Analysis:

The criticism about Buddy getting in foul trouble too much is completely unfounded. That is a good criticism for Sidibe, Chukwu and Dolezaj. Maybe Frank. But not Buddy.

Buddy was the best rebounding guard on the team. As he gets stronger and more experienced, he will just get better here. Which is good because we are going to need rebounding next year. The rebounding numbers for Elijah and Marek are really bad.

Buddy was better at getting steals than Tyus. Not that blocks mean a lot for guards, but he was better at getting them than Frank Howard.

In terms of turnovers, Buddy was excellent...under 2 per 40 minutes is really good.

In terms of points per 40 minutes, he was third behind Battle and Hughes.

In terms of assists per 40 minutes, he was just behind Tyus. But Tyus played a lot of PG, which gave him a big advantage here. Given how little Buddy had the ball in his hands, he did well in this area.

Buddy didn't play well before conference ball began. I suspect a lot of that had to do with Frank being hurt, and our in ability to run a coherent half court offense without him. That certainly contributed to the bad game Buddy had in the NCAA tournament. Buddy, like all shooting guards, needs a good point guard to get him the ball in places where he can make shots.

Once conference ball started, and Frank took over the point guard role, even against a higher level of competition, he did really well. I have already posted some stats showing him to be one of the top shooters in the ACC as a freshman.

Any program in the ACC, or the country for that matter, would love to have Buddy on their team.

He wouldnt start for a single team in acc, wouldn’t see the floor on some

No thanks

I think this chart shows that Braswell deserves more PT to see if he can continue these numbers with more minutes.

He tended to play in garbage time, sometimes against sub-standard opposition, but there is no question, when Robert was out there, he did well.

With Oshae leaving, he has a chance to get meaningful playing time next season. I hope he is hitting the weights hard and otherwise working his butt off. He could be the biggest surprise on the team in 2019-20.

I agree with you, he’s a great kid, doesn’t mean he should be playing 36minutes in a game ...
...but perception is reality and the locker room did not agree with JB, specifically after 2 or 3 games including the final loss re Buddy playing time.’, especially the last game loss, guys were pissed off re Buddy minutes, not at Buddy, at the HC, I do think Buddy played well in many games, we needed him, he’s a terrific shooter, , in spots , in spurts...but in any other program with a different HC he’s not playing more minutes than Oshae, Elijah, or Carey, could even say Braswell.

He played more minutes than Oshae Brissett - 1st/2nd round pick this year, don’t care different position, put the talent on the floor , Hughes could have moved to the 2 spot, Carey is superior on defense and Bras could have played, heck he played BB played more than Marek, , the last few losses was some of the worst coaching ...he couldn’t get a shot off and when he did it he missed, 39 minutes in the last loss ..we could have pressed and defended, how many times did guys go right around Buddy into the zone -

And next season ... we will see
