Oronde Gadsden II ... the "OG"

Let’s give credit where credit is due the coaches got this kid to come here. He’s a star and one of the best receivers in the league already. I know this sounds crazy but it seems to me we have caught up this year at least with talent versus Clemson. We have a better qb in my
Opinion a better rb maybe not as many receivers but a dominant receiver and he’s proven it against high quality teams. What this team is doing this year is incredible.

Gadsden has been sensational. He consistently breaks the leverage of the DB, adjusts routes and finds space, gets position when challenged for a ball, and makes catches! I'd like to see him more consistently extend his hands and catch out when balls are thrown to his body, no doubt he will improve on that in time.

I really want to see Shrader key on Gadsden less though, and get the ball to some other receivers when warranted. The play today where Mang was wide open, he had Alford on a post with no help before that, all he had to do was throw a deep ball to the middle and it would have been an easy touchdown. He was keying on Gadsden who was bracketed and should have come off of that read right away when the safety moved over to cover.

Pena is also so dynamic in space that I really think we should be getting him at least a few touches every game. Running stick and smash concepts out of the bunch formation they use would be a good way to do it, or simply running screens when they have a deep safety lined up over him.

OG is a legit pro. Solid routes, great hands, size, finds holes in the D. Our O would look pretty one dimensional without him. Other than Anae and Beck, he's the biggest reason for our offensive improvement.

I love how they move him around. He was in the backfield and maybe did a wheel rout and was wide open for the TD. The only downside of Gadsen doing so well is that Shrader looks to him too much and others were open, not that I really blame Shrader and understand why he does but this is something he has to be aware of.

Yes! OG is really good, finally we have a great receiver.

And we have what,13 other receivers on the roster that catch almost no passes. The receiver room needs major changes.
As I said earlier, we just aren’t throwing the ball to the other guys. They are open and sometimes I mean wide the open and Garrett is staring down Gadsden and he doesn’t see them. I watched it happen 10 times or more last night. First 2 games he looked off guys and went to open spots but now he doesn’t read a whole lot.

I hope you are right. I did see Mang wide open for an easy TD when GS almost threw his third int. That was surprising because Mang was not too far away from GS's target, seems like Mang would have been in his field of view.

Yeah I seen that too. Mang coulda crawled into end zone. Alford was wide open 3x I seen but Garrett never even looked his way. Hopefully they will work on that. I know we are being picky lol. 6-0 though.

Getting way ahead but next year going to be better on O
No doubt. Another full year with the system will do nothing but make the offense smoother.
We should still be good on O, but losing Tucker may have a bigger effect than you are accounting for.

It will definitely change things, but I think we'll evolve to be even more of a passing offense. Especially with a guy that looks like he's loaded with dual threat potential like Allen in line for a lot more snaps.

I couldn't believe how open he was on that TD play where he lined up in the backfield. Speaks to the design of the play, I suppose, given how he was already torching NCST's D at that point and they still managed to lose him.

OG2 shows what height, good route running and excellent hands can do for a WR. Now that he has more attention coming his way from opposing coaches, I look forward to seeing the other WR's and TE's getting some key catches and TD's in the future. Very excited about the potential of his group if they step up and catch the balls thrown to them and that includes winning those 1 on 1 battles.

Gadsden is amazing - just what we hoped for. He's now on track for a 1,000 yard season (507 through 6 games) even with a slow start: 3-36 (LV); then 6-112 (PU); 7-107 (UVA); and 8-141 (NcSt) (P5 games only).

Your second point is the one I'm concerned about - the importance of getting other WR's involved so Shrader doesn't get tunnel vision. O(M)G's (8) receptions were twice the other receivers combined (Cooper, Alford and Mang - not counting Tucker). DGMW it's nice to see Tucker catching the ball - another dimension for opposing defenses. But we need Alford, Jackson and Pena to contribute. Clemson isn't going to let Gadsden tear them up like State did.

I remember when Gadsden lined up in the backfield thinking it has to be a pass, and was pleasantly surprised when he was wide open for the TD. Good play design to get them confused.
Same. I was like Wut the .. Gadsden's in the backfield? Then, Pena goes in motion ... to act as a decoy on the flat. This confused the coverage and froze the LB and safety. Anae could run that play again and hit Pena if they collapse on Gadsden.
