OT: Florida Fires Head Coach Will Muschamp

would not be surprised if the next florida hc hires schiano as the dc. he has extensive history in florida recruiting and is an excellent dc.

How great is it that he is getting a $6.3 mil buyout? Wow, good lord. For all the stress that these guys deal with and all of the other money they've made up to this point, I'd be building a house on the hillside in Antigua. He could come back and join CBS as an analyst... if he so chooses... or not.

Peace. You wouldn't see too much of me again.

Leach lived the good life during his time off. Moved to Key West, rode his bike around town every day. In the afternoons, he was part of a 2 hour afternoon college football radio show that he did from home. Read an article about it one day about how happy he was with that life.

Then he moved from there to Pullman, Washington. Which is in line with the fact that he's probably batsh!t crazy.

I just cannot imagine having to recruit non-stop. It would be my single reason out.

As long as the funds are there, sipping on Antiguan rum with my ass buried in white sand seems much more palatable.

Tom O'Brien has announced that he's not a candidate for the Florida opening. ;)
fire SS.

hire Muschamp as the HC and he can run the D.

hire OBrien to run the O.

not my ideal OC, but he wins and knows the northeast recruiting trail.

I think O'Brien is right where he wants to be (for once), at UVA. Only thing left at this point is to lose to Miami and VT, fire London, and give him the job.

the problem with defensive meatheads is they hire who they want, not who anyone else wants.

he goes for the throw at the wall approach.

guys like stoops who know what they want to do are rare

also, Virginia's offense sucks

likely right.

Florida can pay a coach 6 million not to coach. Cuse doesn't have the kind of money some posters seem to think we have…or else, we could sign a big name coach. We just don't have the kind of money that these big state schools or football powers have.

That seems clear, but it hasn't done much for them lately. Florida and Texas have all the money and all the talent, but they have have under performed for a number of years now. Same thing can be said about Tennessee, Michigan, Nebraska and a few others. Very interesting. Apparently, the right coach and a good QB is more important. I wonder how much the difference is between top schools total staff salaries and the middle of the pack teams - $ 5 million? $8 million? Given the rewards, it would seem a poultry sum that just about every P5 school could afford.

Looks like Charlie Strong left Lville a year too early. UF would have been a nice fit for him in his prime recruiting grounds.

They're definitely going offensive mind after Muschamp, Foley said as much. That's where they've had their greatest success (Spurrier, Urban).

Rich Rod seems like a slam dunk.

People keep saying that but according to DOE figures we're top 20 in revenues. Not sure how to reconcile our supposed small market status with the numbers.

this is a scenario where we needed to act and take a look in the mirror.

Rich Rod is out of Syracuse's league as a full time, 10 year hire for sure...but he wouldve been perfect to come in here, run his crazy offense in the Dome...and when a Florida comes looking, hopefully he will actually have someone to leave behind thats an assistant who is a BCS level HC to take over the reigns and continue on with his madness.

pay someone whos worth it the $$, knowing full well that with success the Dome will be filled, recruits will be in line and its likely we wont have to pay his last 2 years anyway.

and 'his guy' thats left, gets bumped up but to a salary no where near his level.

Syracuse needs to know who they are.

heard bob cassullo metion these names Doc holliday and his bold prediction was john gruden

Syracuse next HC should be a offensive coach. I like Ohio State's OC Tom Herron but I want a HC with some experience as a HC after G-Rob, Shafer having no HCing experience.

What sucks is we are stuck with the status quo until next year. If Gross would replace Shafer I would double my season tickets from 4 to 8 if that would help the buyout.

Doc Holiday is a WV native and Marshall grad but he is a guy I would pay NOW. He will get a P5 job and he can recruit in FL. I wouldn't mind him turning SU around and springboarding us to an even bigger job and then hiring a placeholder HC.

That is a reasonable approach. Will never happen, but a reasonable idea.

This is sort of a lower case KaiserUEO type idea. Reasonable approach, but like his Rich Rod thought - will never happen here. Holiday will be P5 soon enough though.

Couldn't agree more. Syracuse has something unique that can set it apart from the overloaded group of mediocre ACC teams. And that something isn't being hard nosed. Let Pitt use that one. We'll sell our roof and then outrun them.

No doubt, I was simply saying how it's amazing he's going to get $6.3 million NOT to come to work. Quite envious I am.
