Could someone please bring up the subject of baseball?

What is wrong with this picture?

Two words: Synchronized Ping-Pong! Or is that three words?

The fact that you need a very small arena to do a short, single day trampoline event, while you need many stadiums for baseball.

Baseball takes 3 hrs to play a game while the whole trampoline event is less than half that.

Many logistical nightmares playing in a country like the UK with no baseball stadiums already existing.

1. MLB will not allow its players to compete.

2. Not enough diversity/competition in the sport.

Simple. As. That.

A bit of an ethnocentric view.

Aside from North & Central America, Venezuela, and a few East Asian countries the rest of the world couldn't give less of a damn about baseball.

Yeah. Tell me about the millions who move the advertising meter for trampolining. What an argument.

That was a nice job ignoring bnoro's post, considering he spelled out the buggiest issues very nicely.

Last time they had baseball, it was the US, Cuba and Japan fighting for medals...every time. And it wasn't even close. not really worth the expenditure.

Give me a break. I wasn't ignoring anyone.

My point was that there are many sports played at the Olympics that pale in comparison to other sports, both in terms of popularity and human-interest. This list (http://www.dnj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=2012307240002), compiled by the IOC, shows sports with the most National Sports Federations. Admittedly, having one of these sports federations is not a direct correlation to popularity and/or participation. However, of the 33 sports listed, only Squash, Baseball, Rugby, Modern Pentathlon, and Roller Sports are not part of the Olympics. IMO, hard to argue that baseball and rugby should be left off the calendar. Heck, squash is making a major push to become a part of the Olympics, pointing towards Brazil in 2020.

While costs are certainly a consideration, there has to be a way that an economically feasible baseball complex could be built that could accommodate a schedule over the course of 17 days. You don't need a 45,000 seat stadium to have an impact.

Except I believe ts only men's trampoline probably to offset rhythmic gymnastics. But trampoline really? Hey my fat ass could do that and gven my current physical condition I'd be hitting the top of the arena. I looked at the results on ESPN yesterday and Dong Dong from China won. Really the state limits you to one child and the best name you can come up with is Dong Dong?

That's not entirely true. There are several European countries (well, at least two - I, NL) with a long baseball tradition.

The main point is true, however, there aren't enough countries who field competitive teams.

There are other sports I'd like to see dropped as well, including tennis (they already have annual Grand Slam and events around the world), I'd like to see basketball follow a route similar to soccer and limit the number of (pro?) players over a certain age (23?). For the latter, the USA/NBA could lead the way and only send players in their first 4 years of the NBA, that way everyone would have one chance to go to the Olympics.

I wouldn't advise watching the trampoline event after, say, 6 Fat Tires. Dizzy.

baseball was in there and it bombed - no one cared and it seemed silly at an olympic games

there are plenty of olympic events already without adding every team sport that some countries enjoy

I love baseball - but it doesn't belong in the olympics.

Yeah you really proved a point there if you can tell me about all the nations around the world that have the millions of dollars needed to field competive baseball teams and the facilities needed for it. It's 1 freaking guy jumping on a trampoline for a minute vs baseball stadiums, equipment, 3+ hour games, etc. You honestly can't see the difference?

Fun fact, there are about 30 nations that play baseball and 48 that play American football. There are 100+ that play both rugby and cricket. Maybe we should fold the MLB and NFL for those 2 sports since they are more popular?

Your arguement is just invalid. You want trampoline replaced? Fine. You want to replace it with a sport that only 14% of the countries in the olympics even play? Good luck.

Sounds like this event should be held on the quad prior to all SU hame games. Guys who think they can do triple flips on trampolines. I'd try it after a solid hour of tailgating.

Second thought, it should be help off of University grounds to avoid the following injury lawsuits.

I have a different memory. The decision to drop baseball & softball was at its core an anti-USA vote. Covered fairly well at the time.

I would wager that there are a long list of Olympic sports that have far less international traction than baseball & softball. As for the argument that it's uncompetitive, I give you basketball as it exists now. As for the argument that the hosts had to build fields they would never use again, level the mound & seed the infield and you have another soccer field.

Again, a chance to stick it to us -- mission accomplished.

So many mistakes, let's see.

1) Modern Pentathlon IS an Olympic Event, and has been since 1912.
2) Rugby Sevens is being added to the 2016 Olympics, and Squad and Roller Sports are probably next
3) The Rio Olympics are in 2016, not 2020.

Given your constant lack of knowledge, on well, everything Olympics, I'm guessing you really don't care that ing much, so why should the IOC listen to you?

baseball and softball were popular sports removed for stupid reasons.

Bingo, this is exactly what happed. Whats ironic is that in the last olympics to have baseball and softball the US didnt win either including the softball team who didnt get the gold for the first time I think ever. The IOC is clueless.

Simple - it's the middle of the season and playoff hunt.

Little did you know but trampoline season runs through October so the summer Olympics don't take the trampoliners away from that...

Plus - there are already 182 games by every team.

Trampoline, badmiton, table tennis should all be taken out of the olympics, we don't really need to replace them. Sailing is another that would be better off left out.
