OT Poker and Greed is not good

Okay. A poker story of a man with greed, getting what he deserved. The Mohegan sun and their Spring Showdown series this past week. I was able to go down Sunday for the $300 large stack tournament. There were 225 people in the tournament. Started at 11 a.m.. At 1 a.m. in the morning (14 hours of play) we finally get to the final table. I have 700,000 chips. which places me in 3rd. The large stack has 2.1 million. Way ahead of everyone. The table offers him $9,000 in cash, which is second place money, and the trophy, to end the tournament right now. We will sort out the rest of the $$ between the 9 of us remaining. First place is 13K. 10th is $975. He refuses. Which is his right. However, I have won 6 tournaments up to this point this year and chopped every time. when they give you the $$, it means you won. Anyway, he gets placed in the 9 seat. I am in the `1o. The button is in the 8 seat. The first hand, everyone folds to him. He calls. Blinds are 20k 40k. I look down at pocket kings. I raise 100k. He calls. The flop is 5, 3, 2. he bets 100k. I go all in for about 600k. He calls with 5,4. he misses on the turn and the river. I have now doubled up. Just slightly behind him. On the second hand, he bets 100k. Another player goes all in for 187K. Incredible, he folds. I am now the chip leader. On the third hand, the guy in the 8 seat bets 100K. The former big stack calls as do i with pocket 4's. The flop is 6,6,4. The first guy checks. The former big stack goes all in. I call with my full house. He turns over ace jack. The hand ends harmlessly and I now have 28 million chips and in just 10 short minutes, he is out of the tournament. his winnings...$975. He could have left with 9k. Before they are done giving me his chips, I say I'll take the deal you offered him. And I did. Yes, I could get a few more bucks but we ended it right there. I can't imagine the ride home at 1 in the morning for that guy. The players were so grateful to me that I took less ( for tax purposes) and got cash from them.

I was at Bethlehem (PA) Sands on Saturday playing cash. A guy I know from a game I used to play in sat next to me. He told me that he and another guy I know from that same game were at a Sands table together this past December. They have a bad beat jackpot and it was at over $500k at the time. He said the other guy I know turned a straight flush against another guy who flopped quad Kings. The loser of the hand won about $260K (50%), the winner of the hand--the guy I know--won about $130K...and everyone else at the table (including the guy sitting next to me on Friday) won about $18K each.

Typically bad beat jackpot tips to the dealer should be about 2-3%. Most players tipped well, including the winner of the hand giving $4,000. The loser of the hand--the guy who won $260,000-- told the dealer he would tip her later on in the night. He wound up bailing and never tipped her. He's a Sands regular and hasn't been back since. People have seen him at Borgata and he says it's his right not to tip. The dealers rely heavily on tips and this guy deserves all the bad karma he gets.

Bad form. I was in a small tournament, there was 7 people left. 6 got paid. We had a bubble pot for the unlucky guy who finished 7th. Except one guy didn't want in. So we went without him. The guy not in lost and the guy holding the money put the bubble money down. the guy took it and we wish we had a wide out that can run as fast as this guy as he left the casino. What a slime ball.

I was at the Bellagio a few years ago playing a single table sat into a larger WPT event, probably a $3k buy in. I got heads up with a 4 to 1 chip lead. My opponent offered to accept $500 to chop. I refused, cocky, thinking that I could easily beat him.

You know the end.

I've always chopped since then.

Really Alsacs. Thank you for that. It was my 7th win this year and I have done it like that every time. Alsacs, you have made my night. Which one was your friend. And by that, describe him. And did your friend say anything about the guy that was knocked out in 10th? And yes guys, the Orange shirt was done on purpose.

I realize that I am overly generous on the chops. Earlier this year, I did a even chop when there was 4 players left and I had table covered. Funny thing is that I love playing heads up, But I am always willing to pay the bubble as well. Sometimes, in the bigger tournaments (like this weekend at foxwoods) it's impossible because there are just too many people. It probably cost me $$ over the long term but I have never had a drive home like the guy last Sunday night (Monday morning, really).

Just an aside, iommi, next time you're in Bethlehem, if you like Italian, have dinner at a place called Sal's. Best Italian place I've ever been.

Yea, in live poker they are pretty typical. I have played primarily online since 2008 or so, structures are better so no reason to chop.
