Any hear Wilbon yesterday or the day before talking about how there are only 4 real conferences; obviously the B10 is included in that. He then went on to say the ACC and Big East are basically at the same level. I'm not saying the ACC is at the same level of the PAC 1o or SEC but come on, the B10? They've been talking all week how if Michigan can just keep it close that will be a good loss for the B10. Really??? This just proves the B10 is more like the ACC and Big East then it is one of the 4 super conferences.

I used to like him but his facts and information the last year or so leave a lot to be desired. Not this topic in particular but he comments on a lot of things when it's apparent he doesn't know what he's talking about.

Plus I'm pissed off that he said Lance Armstrong was basically a sh!tty father for the message he was sending his kids. I don't care whether you think he doped or not but you don't ever drag a man's kids into a conversation like that. Really really low class if you heard that segment this week - probably on monday. Lost all respect for him.

Wilpon, a Northwestern grad, will find out about the Big East and the ACC tomorrow.

To suggest that a conference with the likes of Clemson, Florida State, Miami, Va Tech, Ga Tech and others is not a major college conference, is down-right silly.

Next.

The ACC's record in BCS Bowl games really hurts their image and does them no favors. I don't agree with Wilbon that the ACC is on the same level as the Big East, BUT the ACC is a solid #5 conference behind the SEC, Pac12,Big10, Big12 I don't think that is up for too much debate.

The ACC is not the BE, but it's not the B10 either.

  1. Clemson set back ACC football reputation a decade.
  2. SEC is vastly overrated. Just like the Big10, the bottom half of the conference is not anywhere near the caliber of the top half.
  3. Nobody plays defense in the Big 12
  4. The PAC12 is probably underrated again.
As Dennis Miller would say. "Just my opinion, I could be wrong."

I can understand thinking the Big East with WVU, Pitt, and Syracuse are on the same level as the ACC but below the big 4 in football. Several board members made that argument for years. The 2013 Big East is a level below the ACC and a 14th team won't change that.

I don't get why everybody hangs their hat on the BCS games. I'd be so much more interested in the bigger picture which is the OOC games/records against each conference.

People judge conferences on the # of teams they have in the top 10 and their record in major bowl games.

It's why the Pac-12 is viewed as a power league, despite being pretty crappy aside from USC and Oregon (and Stanford for 2 years).

It is what it is.

I dont think the gap is that large thought between the Big 10 and the ACC right now. Will increase as Ohio State and Michigan get better.

Tony and Wilbon were discussing if it was important for the game of football if a non-sec team won the national championship this year when Wilbon said that quote. To some extent, Wilbon is right and the BE and ACC haven't been a major player for the national championship for a while. That seems to be changing with FSU finally coming back, and Clemson building lots of momentum.

I don't care of the media's perception of conferences in the least - though, at times it's frustrating to hear about SEC dominance this and that. I went to Florida games for three years and I can tell you that the SEC benefits from (A) inflated perception in early season polls and (B) lack of difficult OoC schedule. Do I think they are arguably the best conference? Definitely. But, let's base opinions on head to head match ups instead of hypotheticals based on perceptions. Only way that will ever happen is (A) there was a level playing field in OoC scheduling and (B) there was a playoff that didn't try to manufacture made for TV match ups.
