OT: Report: Pat Narduzzi turns down offer to become UConn’s coach

We're pretty thrilled.

He's got a better pedigree than Schaffer or Flood or Adazio. Now he has to make the case that its easier beating out UCF, BYU & Cincy than FSU & Clemson to get to a BCS game.

I have a feeling we get to two before long.
Holy crap. Is he another wunderkind? I mean I know y'all think you got something special in Ollie. So 2 for 2? Youse guys hit the jack pot!? All I can say is keep your feet on the ground when you reach for those stars.

Ok. they changed the name New Year's Six but I think we all know what we are talking about.
You better schedule 3 or 4 auto wins OOC...then hope you win every conference game...to even sniff a chance. You guys are a small step above the MAC and if you need income...4 OOC auto wins isn't happening. You guys going to play 8 or 9 conference games going forward?

And when Diaco proves he can go 6-6 at UConn which is a pretty monumental task I wonder which power 5 school poaches him?

Perhaps, but I wouldn't bet the house on it. Not only do you have to leapfrog UCF, Cincy, Houston, and ECU in the AAC, you also have to be better than the MWC champ (likely Fresno State or Boise State), the MAC champ, C-USA champ (likely Marshall or Rice), etc

Certainly doable at some point, but I'm not sure how soon it will happen.

Cheers,
Neil

even if you win the American you still have to finish 1st in the tallest midget contest to get into one of the four new era BCS games.

Yup. Instead of having to beat 7 other schools for a BCS bid, you have to beat out 50 or so.

Congrats on the new hire. Might have made more sense hiring someone known for identifying unappreciated talent and developing it rather than turning diamonds into quartz, but maybe your guy is the white Charlie Strong. Hope you steal some NJ recruits from Rutgers.

Good luck.

I am always a bigger fan of hiring a proven HC from a smaller program, guy who can do more with less, I know we didn't go that way either, and I am happy with Shafer, very happy but a guy that can recruit and coach at ND? BFD. Nobody has any idea how good this guy will be, he could be GREAT or he could be an unmitigated disaster. Just don't know.

I think it's like hiring a corporate guy who has been VP with a large company and making him the owner/ president of a small company. Sometimes it can be a train wreck because he now doesn't have this unlimited supply of admin, departments, cash, etc. Whole different world

To me it's a big risk but what isn't. Like I said, I am not saying it's a bad hire, could be a great one but if it is he will surely be gone in 2 years but so be it. Those 6-6 seasons will be epic beating SMU in front of 10 K for a birth to the beef bowl!

Thank god, I mean thank god we aren't involved in that conference. I don't know if I could be a fan anymore, I really don't. Might have been the end of me. UCONN fans don't know any better but holy is that bad

I've said it once before on here but I really don't understand why all these Northeast football teams (us too) have this obsession with promoting DC's to head coaches. We all (relatively) suck up here in the Northeast, but we keep doing the same thing over and over...

it's sad when a AAC school can pay 640,000$ more in salary than a bottom paying ranked last big 10 school can.

Guess who?

U-CONN'S hiring will not help N.D. opponent in their bowl game

Need to be invited to sit at the adult table first. Until then it aint happening

Exactly. Who the hell left the door open and let this jamoke back in.

Good hire but the big question will be what coordinators are they going to get in. I bet Diaco will be HC/DC to save some $. They spent their entire TV funds on their HC!

Beat me to it, damn!

If I recall they are getting 20-30 million from the former BE schools who had to buy their way out of the former BE. Spread out over 5 years I believe. UConn can basically use that to pay for their football staff every year if they wanted.

That money eventually runs out and I am pretty sure there is no windfall coming anytime soon after that. What happens, not if but when is still in the AAC in 5 years?

Good luck.

I think it's borderline criminal that Pukon gets a dime from the teams who departed the BE, after they sat on their a$$es for a decade while other teams did the heavy lifting to build up that football conference, then they get an auto entry into a BCS conference with their crappy 1AA team. I'm glad they were left behind and hope they experience nothing but overwhelming failure.

The Good Luck was sarcasm. Yes, it is borderline criminal that they get anything. Feels kind of like a welfare program for D1 College Football teams.

Greg Schiano part duex -- he is going to come after us and our recruits

it's going to be really hard to get BCS a-list conference recruits to flop over to conference usa. that's not going to happen.

the 2nd thing is, which syracuse kids could diaco possibly target?

Diaco’s must sense his flame is dying and he’s running out of opportunities if he had to settle for .

That job is going to kill any career aspirations he might have – unless he’s just setting himself up for the buttgers job next year.

Who is Narduzzi?

Schäffer the Darklord?

Yeah. We'll have to have a special season but I still maintain it will be easier for UCONN to finish ahead of CFL or Cincy or Boise than it will for SU or BCU to finish ahead of Clemson, FSU, UNC etc.

SU will be cashing bigger checks, no doubt, but as we saw with BCU, that doesn't equal on-the-field-results.

I think out of SU, RU, Pitt, BCU & UCONN, the program with the best coaching will have the best team on the field.

UNC?

If Maryland or Wake Forest can win the ACC...

Hey I knew this guy with a solid pedigree. DC on a couple of super bowl teams, won a Rose Bowl as DC of Texas. Howd that work out?

Was the first interview question"do you know lebron james?"

You are going to have a tough time convincing me that that HS kids aren't impressed with the NBA and their stars.

Diaco is a HUGE hire no doubt about it. A lot of people here wanted him. Lets give credit where it's due and not begrudge them this as it's just false to say this is anything but a good thing for them. They must really think/hope they are going to get picked up by the ACC at some point.
