OT: Report: Pat Narduzzi turns down offer to become UConn’s coach

Hey I knew this guy with a solid pedigree. DC on a couple of super bowl teams, won a Rose Bowl as DC of Texas. Howd that work out?

I miss those days on here. Heady stuff.
Really?

2012-Present Defensive Coordinator, Linebacker Coach & Assistant Head Coach Notre Dame
2010-2011 Defensive Coordinator & Inside Linebacker Coach Notre Dame
2009 Defensive Coordinator Cincinnati
2006-2008 Linebacker Coach & Special Teams Coach Virginia
2004-2005 Co-Defensive Coordinator Central Michigan
2001-2003 Linebacker Coach & Secondary Coach
Eastern Michigan

2013-Present Head Coach Syracuse
2011-2012 Defensive Coordinator & Secondary Coach Syracuse
2009-2010 Defensive Coordinator Syracuse
2008 Defensive Coordinator Michigan
2007 Defensive Coordinator & Assistant Head Coach Stanford
2005-2006 Defensive Coordinator Western Michigan
2004 Secondary Coach Illinois
2000-2003 Defensive Coordinator & Secondary Coach Northern Illinois
1996-1999 Secondary Coach Northern Illinois
1993-1995 Secondary Coach Rhode Island

I'm going to suggest that being the DC for Cincy, going undefeated in the regular season trumps being the DC at Michigan and going 3-9.

Second, I'm going to suggest that being the DC for an undefeated ND team playing in the NC trumps 8-5 with a Pinstripe Bowl.

Third I'm going to suggest a Broyles Award and a top 4 finish, beats no Broyles Award

If you're talking "pedigree" I don't think anyone who follows CFB would agree that being DC of Cinci is a better job than DC of Michigan. Even if your boss is Rich Rodriguez.

No. That's silly. But I think most football people like coaches who go undefeated over coaches who go 3-9. And if the 3-9 team has all the baked-in advantages of MI?

We are going to have to agree to disagree about which season was most impressive.

Coach P had a better pedigree. How'd that go? There are no guarantees.

The huge who funds their football programmed and bit**ed and moaned about the PP hire is not going to let them roll over and die. I wonder how much he gave to make this happen?

Except at no point was a arguing who had the better season.

He was also the d coordinator for Harbaugh at Stanford. Look, you promised us a big hire. This seems like a good hire but not a big hire. And deep down you were hoping for something better. It reminds me of Syracuse hiring Frank Maloney back in the 70's. A lot of hope Not many good results.

what exactly is Ollie doing? Not much in his first year. Good so far in year two but a team with vet guards really should beat some of the teams you barely beat by a more confortable margin. And the proof is that you are here trying to convince us that you are relevent.

I'm not even saying this is a bad hire. But to say he has a better "pedigree" than Addazio or Shafer?

Besides that we didnt make him HC because he was a "big name" or because he was at Stanford and UM beforehand.

LOL. You guys change the goal posts. Ollie has UCONN in the top 10 with a recruiting class for next year that has two sure-fire NBA players. I thought we were going to be a mid-major?

And deep down you were hoping for something better.

Yeah, but once the TX opened up, I figured Saban was no longer possible.

LOL. We just hired the absolute best coordinator in the nation and one with NJ ties and more success than any of the regional rivals?

All I hear is what a great recruiter he is...

Raise your hand if you can tell me the one team missing from the top 40 class rankings for 2014

Yeah. We'll have to have a special season but I still maintain it will be easier for UCONN to finish ahead of CFL or Cincy or Boise than it will for SU or BCU to finish ahead of Clemson, FSU, UNC etc. SU will be cashing bigger checks, no doubt, but as we saw with BCU, that doesn't equal on-the-field-results. I think out of SU, RU, Pitt, BCU & UCONN, the program with the best coaching will have the best team on the field.
So you think it will be easier to beat out 50 programs instead of 13? You also realize the ACC can and will routinely have multiple schools in the new BCS as well?

I applaud your willingness to defend your school and it's current position regardless of all facts and logic. It is that kind of can do attitude that fueled The Little Engine That Could. Bravo!

What you and UConn fans fail to realize is Narduzzi turned UConn down because he couldn't get the budget commitment he wanted for his assistant coaches to be able to get a good staff. Diaco is a good hire for UConn, but he has wanted a head coaching job these past 2 years and UConn was the first one he was offered. UConn has from 3 years to 5 years worth of Big East exit fee money to keep themselves relevant. They will be bringing in 3 million dollars a year in TV money from the AAC now while everybody else in a power 5 conference will be bringing in 15 to 20 million dollars. Paying Geno 1 million dollars, Ollie 1 million dollars, Diaco 1.5 million dollars is your entire TV contract. Your attendance will have to pay all operation costs, and non-endowed scholarships. Good luck with that.

The B1G is not going take UConn for the foreseeable future as their isn't another option Mizzou isn't leaving the SEC now with the SEC network starting up in 2014 and them and all the SEC teams sold their T3 to ESPN for the network to get started up. Go and dream B1G and leave this board. I am sure Memphis and Temple will make good rivals for UConn

Better than Cincy? NOT A CHANCE.

Tuberville is an excellent PROVEN Head Coach and Cincy resides in the middle of a talent hotbed.

Most years, Clemson and FSU will be ranked above all but maybe 1 out of those 50, so yes, I think its easier. How many times has the ACC had two?

Are you forgetting the two UCONN BE championships and our BCS game?

Purvis. Come on, you are smarter than that.

They could always follow the Rutgers model... student fees.

Thank you for ignoring my legitimate points because they don't fit your argument. BTW, Cincinnati has played in 2 BCS games and actually sold out all their allotment of tickets for the Sugar Bowl in 2010 against Florida.

Cincinnati has gone 9-3, 10-3, 10-3, 4-8 since going to the back to back BCS games
UConn has gone 3-9, 5-7, 5-7, 8-5, 8-5 in the past 5 years.

UConn recruiting homebase is CT, NY, NJ, FL. Cincinnati recruitng homebase OH, KY, FL

Advantage Cincinnati.

Continue selling us a bunch of crap. Schools like East Carolina, Tulsa, Houston, UCF all will have advantages over UConn in the AAC. Good luck playing bowling games in Marlins Park, Aruba against other non-P5 teams.

Unless you get into a P5 conference within 5 years UConn football is over being a legitimate bigboy and will become a plucky mid-major that can occasionally have a good season.

Let's all be clear sdhusky. Are you saying that you are glad that UConn is in the AAC since it will be an easier path to a BCS bowl game? That really, being in the AAC is a blessing.

You have one top 100 recruit for 2014.

And 1 guy in the top 25 for the year before and one guy in the top 100 in his HS class. One another top 50 player who dropped out of the top 100 after an injury (full recovery)

So... 2 top 25, 1 more top 50 & 1 top 100. I'll take it :)

to be fair, they never were a legit big boy. Every time they played a legit big boy, they got crushed. The big wins for UConn consisted of beating basically .500 South carolina, Iowa St and N.D..

No. Not at all. The ACC is a much more stable place and I would want to be there.

However, when it comes to on field results, I don't think its as big an advantage as you might think. Not for the next 5 years or so.
