I said this about a month ago, and some posters blasted me
I said this this weekend, and no one even really responded. At every position you could make a case (even Joseph).

Fringe Top 25. But yeah, lot of talent there.

At this point, I'd put my money on those five versus the starters in a game.

I agree, I don't think there is a single starter significantly outplaying their back up right now.

Lets not kid ourselves. DW is significantly better - and by significant i mean there is absolutely no comparing them - than the two starting guards.

but ya, your point is well made. pretty crazy.

Well you have 3 of the 4 best offensive scoring threats on this team imo. JSouth is 4th on the team in rebounding. I think what this best illustrates though is that JB may actually play 10 all year. Baye as 10th in minutes is a bit of a surprise. BT and Triche as 8th and 9th is a big surprise, though not unjustified. Do the veterans get more PT come BE time? Probably, but the youngsters are showing they deserve the time. Triche is 8th in minutes but 3rd in shots attempted. Dion and KJo are 1st and 2nd in each category. Can't say BT is not being aggressive.

Oh pleeeeezzeee... We haven't played anybody yet. Let's reserve the hyperbole until at least half-way through the VT game. By then, we might actually know something.

That's true. However, you don't think that beating up on teams by an average margin of 32.5 points is any sign of what to expect this year?

I like the comment during the game - the annoucer said something like - let the second team play against the starters in practice, and the winners get to start.

No if, ands, or buts about it, they would be in the top 25. Florida State is better than that lineup? Cal? no chance.

No. Crushing patsies tells you nothing. That being said, I hope SU croaks VT. Then, we'll know something.

I want to see where the ball goes and what the tendencies will be once the game gets tight. It's nice when there is no pressure and things are going your way but when the team is struggling and it will, how will they react? I like this team a lot but I want to see them under some pressure along with what Boeheims rotation will be once things get harder.

Anyone going to do the player ranking poll this season?

A lot of hyperbole in this thread, but the second unit is as good as its ever been. To the point where I don't think anyone has to worry about players getting in foul trouble. There's a reasonable answer for all 5 players on the bench. And even if it gets down to Mookie, it'd be okay to give Chuckapotamus a few minutes as well.

I don't think they'd be a top 25 team. Maybe I'm crazy, but let's see how they do against a legit team before going that far.

Edit: I think Jake has it about right.

I think SU is top 5 partially because of the deep bench. If you took SU's starting five and SU's second five and made them two different teams with no subbing, the starters would maybe be ranked 20-25 and the second five would be unranked.

enh

C you can argue that Keita is on par with Melo. Melo has more upside and is the better O player. Keita is more consistent and the better D player.

PF I was surprised preseason and am still surprised that XMas is the starter. My guess is he gets the least PT of JB's 8 man rotation. He is in there fro rebounding but IMO we are better off with Fair, who isn't too bad at rebounding himself.

SF there is no question that KJo > JS. I hope JS continues to play well and stay in the rotation but I expect him to get limited mins in BE play.

SG I think DW is a better player than Triche. IMO it is more personal that he doesn't start. He will get more mins per game.

PG I think MCW is more talented than Scoop. However SR Scoop is > than FR MCW.

IMO there really isn't a huge difference between the starters and the bench.

Agreed especially when you consider that Dion, James, CJ and Baye are probably playing as well as any of our guys in these first 4 games.

Maybe I could rephrase:

Our 2nd 5 would beat some of the Top 25's starting 5 in a game.

Not without a bench they wouldn't
Good point. Teams aren't predicated on their starting 5, but as their entire team/coaching staff. That being said, they would make a top-25 starting lineup, yes.

No, it doesn't mean much to beat those team by 32.5- those teams were completely overmatched physically. I want to see James play this way against a Va Tech or NC State before I believe he can do it in the BE. Same with Kieta- remember he had 17 rebounds early last year in a game. MCW may ride the pine a bit as he adjusts but his talent will get him time.
I still believe JB will get to a 9 man roation too so someone's gonna ride more pine out of this group.
