Painting himself into a corner. Marrone interviewing for Jacksonville O.C. job

Lots of ways to parse stats, no doubt. Surprisingly the Bills gave up 39 sacks on 579 attempts while the Jets were much worse with 47 sacks on 498 attempts. Didn't watch the Jets much at all, and was really surprised that the Bills were much better than I seemed to recall.

orton spiked the ball at the feet of other players quite often, they were smart plays that happened a lot

I hope the Jags stay in Jacksonville while he's the OC. I shudder to think how he'd handle the British press.

;)
Right, because coordinators get plenty of time in front of the microphone.

Doug of course. That chatterbox is all over the media! Can't keep him quiet about it all!

Links please, I haven't heard any quotes from him directly that I can recall that would amount to dirty laundry. Then again I wasn't looking and don't care.

I was joking.

I have to say I love all the angst St. Doug has caused Bills nation. All the speculation, planted stories in the media, amateur psychiatry, rumor mongering, and attempts at trying to offer insight into what could have caused St. Doug to leave-was it $, ambition, greed has been very entertaining? To me it's pretty simple- sometimes things just don't work out and it's better to just move on. There was obviously conflict between St. Doug and the front office dating back to camp. On some level, I have to give St. Doug credit- he had his -U $ built into the contract- wouldn't we all like that option at work? One of Rex's comments in the presser was in response to the question what has he learned for coaching the 2nd time around and he replied he'd do things his way this time around. St. Doug might be all the negative things said about him- but if he's willing to walk away from the 31st best job in the NFL in order to do things his way or no way at all- I respect that.

If your employer gave you the option.

You can have your same salary you earned last year as severance all at once up front right now but today is your last day. Giving you basically a year to find a new job and options of your own, or you can get a not so high paying job right away until you found something you really wanted to do. I find it hard to believe that most people wouldn't take the option even if the job you got right away was paying 75% or even 50% of what you were earning.

Which job is worse, considering where the coach gets to live?
I was just thinking I would love $4M to look for another job in the same industry, all of which are better locations.

Short sighted and stupid if you don't know you can get as much or close to it the following 3 years. Let's revisit this in 4 years and see if he parlayed taking that $4m into another $12m or so the next 3 years.

Short sighted and stupid? I guess it comes down to motivation for these guys- for you it may be $ only but at this level why work in an atmosphere where you feel you are not being supported or even undermined if you don't have to? Doug has earned enough to keep him in baloney sandwiches and gatorade for quite a while so I doubt it comes down to just the cash for him. Perhaps he values doing things his way more than the $ left on his contract/mystery extension in Buffalo. I can't kill somebody for following his own vision if that's the case.

Depends on if you actually like and want to do the job you have currently, doesn't it?

When do you ever know what you can get in the future? My salary always stays constant at least for the time being but 40% of my income is commission, it is never guaranteed.

And you would be wrong. One year's compensation but you take a huge risk that you will be able to find a better job when you reenter the market. The one thing I have learned is that there is no such thing as a free option - they all come with a cost.

Apples and oranges.

Apples and oranges.

I could re-enter the market the day after I got the check. Same as if I were fired but without the black mark on my resume.

He was offered an extension. So he was supported. You keep mentioning things like undermined or not being able to follow his plan. There's zero evidence of that and I call BS.

Is it that hard to see that it was just a greedy move? If it walks like a duck...

You know what you're going to get in the future by having a future job lined up before up and quitting. Marrone doesn't work on commission.

Re-enter doesn't mean obtain.
