Painting himself into a corner. Marrone interviewing for Jacksonville O.C. job

but only for one year then he's back in your office demanding that his salry gets doubled or he's leaving to accept another HC job all the while bad mouthing you and your team's mgt...

Seriously, who would want to sign this guy up for any kind of long term gig ? Frequent job changes - check. Takes other employees with him when he leaves - check. Left "dream job" twice - check.
This is exactly what I'm thinking. If he rode things out in Buffalo and got fired by a new owner he would be more marketable than the route he's chosen, regardless of what level of success he has in Jax (if he gets the job). If he were a more seasoned NFL HC with significant playoff success, he would be able to pull off stuff like this. But, he left his "dream job" at SU after moderate success and then left his first NFL HC job after 2 seasons and very little success. Guys like Bill Parcells, Bill Belichick, Jimmy Johnson, they can pull off this move.

Why would DM stay in Buffalo and watch Whaley screw up the draft again. He was the smartest guy in the room during draft meetings and he was being over ruled by an inept GM. I have no inside knowledge but I'd be willing to bet that Doug wanted an offensive lineman with their first round pick.

Why do people on this forum keep saying he knew he would get canned in a year? The Bills were willing to keep him. If he is a good coach like many here think he is then the team would have been good and he could have earned an extension.

Why was it clear that the new owner wanted to hire his own man?

Where did you hear that?

So much stuff being made up on this forum to make Marrone look less incompetent than he is.
new catchphrase for this situation, "when the going gets tough....the tough get going". Ba da bing ba da boom!

cooper will be a top pick for sure, but in 2014 jags went QB in the 1st, 2 WR in the 2nd and an OG in the 3rd. they got denard robinson, cecil shorts and marcedes lewis...who i guess would be on the age downtick. as i said before, they got weird talent, but it might work for him.

i can see them take an OL, but at #3, they will likely take gregory or williams.

provided they dont get a windfall of picks with a trade.

Good points. Trade would be a good move for them too. They need bodies.

Allen Robinson, Allen Hurns, and Marquise Lee are a very young receiving corps with upside. Also Justin Blackmon is still under contract there if he can get his life back together is a pro bowl talent. There are a lot of young pieces there.

I can see that too, get your money and move on but why interview for other HC spots, really not buying it. I think his personality sucks to be a HC because if he doesn't win nobody will cut him ANY slack because he comes off as such a . . . . . . Not that NFL coaches get much anyway but every bit helps,

Best part about Rex yesterday is he knows that O Line is probably just as big an issue as QB. The thing that would concern me most about marrone is he is an OC O Line coach whose teams have sucked there quite a bit. At least with Rex you know you will play defense and hopefully the OC is right guy. Marrone's identity as a head coach is he hires good d coordinators really and that he gets endorses by influential people because he's dialed in there
given that they are going to be a meathead team, at least they got good meatheads in roman and ryan

kaepernick was very efficient passing except for last year and i still think he throws weird

that sounds like a decent bunch of WR but nothing earthshattering.

It was reported that he wanted no part of trading up for Sammy Watkins, likely because it forced the team into a win-now mode instead of staying the course of his plan. And also cost them a valuable first round pick.
If that report is true (there are other reports saying he was happy with the trade and never left the draft room), is that proof that the Bills told him that he couldn't continue with his grand plan?

When I think of "meathead," I think pounding square pegs into round holes with outdated schemes and thinking punting on 4th and 1 inside opponent territory is a good idea.

I could be wrong but I don't think Ryan and Roman fall into that category.

no one is dumber than marrone about this stuff except maybe scott shafer. i expect the bills to be ordinary about that stuff now, which is fine considering where they're coming from

You seem to have trouble committing to positive opinions.

As much as you say it, doesn't make it true.

does Rex Ryan is a much better coach than Doug Marrone...work for you??

cause it does for the rest of the NFL...

What's the head to head record? Last two years playing essentially the same schedule, Jets 12-20 vs Bills 15-17.

Here is what the Jets did in the eight years prior to Ryan

2001 10-6 Playoffs
2002 9-7 Playoffs
2003 6-10
2004 10-6 Playoffs
2005 4-12
2006 10-6 Playoffs
2007 4-12
2008 9-7

He then went
9-7 Playoffs
11-5 Playoffs
8-8
6-10
8-8
4-12

He's a better coach because he inherited a decent team and had two very good playoff runs and then a four year period without a winning season since. That makes sense.

They replaced a guy who beat the new guy like a drum head to head and had the first winning season with the organization in 10 years with a coach that has gone 26 - 38 his last four years.

Good for them.

I hardly think he is painting himself in a corner. This is his backup plan in case he does not get the jobs he has interviewed for. Who would not do the same thing? Supposedly he has a job awaiting in Texas as another fallback option.

You honestly think Bills and Jets have equal rosters from a talent standpoint?

it's a shame for both of us that the jets didn't hire marrone. i'm sure if that had happened, the jets roster would've started stinking only on the day marrone was hired and not a second before.

all those nfl guys who think so highly of marrone are putting him right where he was before he ever came to SU

"Saint Doug defrocked by NFL execs"...ba-dum-bump!

I'm surprised Mehta didn't use that headline.

You don't walk a away from an NFL head coaching job so you can become a coordinator.
