Pat Forde Article on SI

So the general consensus seems to be the ACC told SU to issue a statement....so are we to believe SU powers that be were going to do nothing?

This coach of ours was always defensive and thin-skinned - and until recently very successful.
Now he is defensive, thin-skinned, cantankerous, gaslighting, delusional - a national embarrassment and not successful whatsoever.
Please for the love of god JB just retire.
It’s wild to see how your tune has changed from just a few years back. Same with many folks on here. JB has squandered all of the good will from strong supporters among this fanbase. It’s unfortunate that he allowed it to get this ugly. All he had to do was work the portal last season and bring in a high-level small forward transfer to supplement the freshman, and some of these losses would turn into wins and we’d be having a decent season. Relying on all these freshman in key roles was a crazy proposition, and so many people could see the writing on the wall.

Yep, a lot of people on the board could easily identify this as a concern. Yet our coach who's paid millions couldn't and didn't want to address when rumor has it the assistants saw it.

I think it's obvious, he's not able to accurately evaluate his talent level anymore, while not taking advice from his lieutenants.

Low hanging fruit. Won’t be the first or last article capitalizing on this. Strike while the clicks are hot!
So you don't dispute anything written. Noted.

We have 3 freshmen starters and the first 3 guys off the bench are either freshmen or sophomores. Lets admit that we have a solid NIT team.

We talk about experience and how UNC used NIL to keep players on campus. They squandered their #1 Preseason ranking to being unranked. Duke with a top 5 recruiting class is unranked. When did that ever happen with Coach K.

So, yeah, we all are unhappy with last few years. We all want NCAAs and top 5 seeds. We are 5-5 with in games decided by 5 points or less. We all wish it was better Should we perform well this week we could drop FSU and Duke down in the ratings. I remain hopeful as we still have a shot.

Frankly, there have been many in the press calling that this is the 2nd season in a row we will miss the NCAA's. Would it not be fantastic if we make it? That would be nice to sent to Forde his prediction at the end of it all.

GO CUSE.

Thank god JB doesn’t go on Twitter or he’d really lose it.

A jr. level person in the AD department hopefully made JABs tweet post...

God help us if he did it himself and decided to have a looksy around tweetsphere...

Sure making the tourney would be quite lovely but is also quite unlikely. As far as wanting top 5 seeds, we haven't been a top 5 seed in 9 years and we can certainly rule it out for this year too so now it will be an entire decade of bubble life which runs parallel with our coach hitting his 70s. Do we really wanna see if things will get better in his 80s? Think that's why most are doing bigger picture thinking.

Letting JB back out of the original deal to leave actually makes it seem that the Chancellor, and AD are subservient to JB.
That is not a good look for the University, and something needs to be done now.
This can't continue to go on, a definite retirement time needs to be set by the University and announced.
This year should be the last year.

To your point, does anyone think the team's performance will improve next year?

If not, then why delay the inevitable?

The search function brings up a lot of old threads about JAB retiring or being put out to pasture. This has been an ongoing discussion and there were a lot of excuses (sanctions, players leaving early, recruits not panning out, Final Four!, tampering, not buying players, transfers!, sweet 16!, the Buddy & Jimmy show, etc.). I've been consistent in my views for a long time.

The decline is strong and IMO, the only things that have kept it from being a free fall has been a combination of factors: 1) JAB is still enough of a good coach that he'll get some wins, 2) the program reputation attracts recruits, and 3) the assistant coaches and organization, etc. But none of that is enough to be a top-30 program anymore.

Seems to be the beginning of a mob forming, which is not good.

That's apparently what it's going to take to get him to retire.

It's conjecture. He doesn't know that that's the way it works (or doesn't work); he doesn't have inside info. He's guessing

It's what Boeheim said.

It's what Boeheim said.

a) not exactly

b) he doesn’t get to pick and choose when he believes what JB says is true, based on how convenient it is for his article.

Yep. All the national media parachuters are learning that Syracuse isn't likely to make the tournament so they need to get their hit pieces in now, whether they're warranted or not.

You don't think Boeheim is due a good kick in the nuts for what he just said in that last press conference?

1. Calling out 3 teams in your league for buying players.
2. Saying your own millionaire benefactor is kind of full of it and doesn't actually pay anybody.
3. Saying you get to decide when you leave, not the university.

I can't see anyone being happy with these remarks.

Boeheim had a really bad, truly terrible week.
I would be very surprised if he's back next year.

Indeed.

If there was ever a week that screams "It's time", it's this week...

If he refuses to go after this, it will likely get pretty ugly.

Also if there wasn't a "he will not go quietly..." contingency out plan approved by the BOT in the AD department already, you can bet they are hatching one now.

I never said it wasn't warranted in this particular case.

Fair.

“especially now that he isn’t guiding a program that is a perennial powerhouse.”

Completely. In fact, seeing as how it was a Pitt beat writer, and he just threw Pitt under the bus with his "bought teams" comment, that article could have had a lot more vitriol to it. I thought the guy even held back a bit on what he could have said.
