Pat Forde Article on SI

The only people I've known in my life more concerned about public perception of them than Syracuse fans right now were the 13 year old girls I went to school with.
Not to sound like a 13 year old girl, but this take is EPIC.

I definitely agree that he always thinks shot first. and I agree the lower number of shots was a function of both good on-ball and good help defense.

I think it was also a function of better decision-making.

What I think he did not do, in this game relative to others, was to force the action and and either throw up a wild shot, turn it over or commit an offensive foul.

And you know this with absolute certainty because….

Perhaps, the same way as you per your "that he always thinks shot first" remark. And you know this with absolute certainty because...

This is an internet fan forum. As such, the overwhelmingly vast majority of posts made here are opinions based upon one's viewpoint or position.

FWIW, My 100% reply was in complete agreement of the post in which I responded to. The second sentence was of course my opinion as well by connecting the dots based upon my thinking as to how it may have likely played out.

The search function brings up a lot of old threads about JAB retiring or being put out to pasture. This has been an ongoing discussion and there were a lot of excuses (sanctions, players leaving early, recruits not panning out, Final Four!, tampering, not buying players, transfers!, sweet 16!, the Buddy & Jimmy show, etc.). I've been consistent in my views for a long time.

The decline is strong and IMO, the only things that have kept it from being a free fall has been a combination of factors: 1) JAB is still enough of a good coach that he'll get some wins, 2) the program reputation attracts recruits, and 3) the assistant coaches and organization, etc. But none of that is enough to be a top-30 program anymore.

I've also shared this similar consistency for sometime as well.

How on Earth is that what you gathered from that post?
Because it's not "low hanging fruit". It's a relevant story about a coach who has overstayed his ability to lead the program. This is not just for clicks & likes. It's an ongoing story that keeps taking turns further and further into a territory most have never seen. Is Forde not supposed to write about it? Should it not be mentioned?

The only thing worse than Boheim are sanctimonious reporters who write stupid things like Chancellors of major universities getting the basketball coach coffee. It just confirms they write from the hip and have no idea what the they're talking about. Pat Forde is a total douche who's had it out for Boheim for years. But, Jimmy has brought this upon himself.

So, news doesn’t happen and then sports journalists write about it. They’re the news makers; they decide. There are a number of stories Forde could have written. He chose this one, probably not among the most relevant topics in college hoops, because his employer is selling ad space and needs clicks to do that. That’s not unique, that’s how it works, but I don’t see the problem pointing out that an easy story to write for clicks was written easily for clicks.

This is silly.

Hence my original post. You find this to be a non-story which it clearly is. Again, a Hall of Fame coach made completely absurd, baseless claims and you want news organizations to NOT cover it? He also stated that he would be coach as long as he wanted and nobody could tell him otherwise...which he has now walked back. He's now had to walk back 3 statements he made in 1 interview. Jim has lost it and it is absolutely a relevant story that should be covered. This is not "low hanging fruit".

You missed the point again. Maybe we're just talking past each other.

I'm not saying it's a non-story. I'm not saying it shouldn't be covered. I'm pointing out that Forde covered it because it's trendy and it will get clicks. Which is how this works.

Forde isn't covering it because he had something poignant or thoughtful to say about it.

I literally just pointed out that it was low hanging fruit. It is. And Forde wanted clicks. He did.

Low Hanging Fruit

Definition: An easy to accomplish task.

Maybe my definition differs from others. IDK. I didn't think it was a controversial opinion.

Most things are silly. We do silly things. The fact that sports journalists exist is silly. The fact that sports exist is silly.

You contradict yourself. That's the issue. You say it should be covered but bash Forde for covering it. Of course any news outlets wants clicks and likes. It seems like you have an issue with Forde in particular which, to me, is irrelevant. I don't care who is reporting on it. I care if it's factual and correct. And in this case, it certainly is. Jim teed this up for these guys, you can't blame them for taking a swing at it.

Programs like Syracuse get in the headlines in during their “down” periods. We’re really not ever irrelevant like some people claim.
Cuse is 100% irrelevant right now. Make no mistake. The only reason they are in the news is because the man in charge is making outlandish statements that show he no longer should be in charge of a major D1 basketball program. Cuse isn't relevant, Jim's nonsense is. Major difference

I had (have) zero feelings about Forde. If I had to name 3 sports journalists right now, I’d fall short by 2.

The article was slapped together quickly and was devoid of insight. ChatGPT could have written it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did.

The better articles on this topic are yet to come, when some thought, time, and effort can be applied.

I think where you are getting worked up is that this is an article. It's not. It's a random thoughts piece where he fleshed out the issues at Cuse a bit more than maybe a tweet. It was not meant to be a long drawn out piece on Jim or the program.

You would know if I was worked up. Some people here could probably vouch for what I’m like when I’m worked up.

My heart rate hasn’t jumped a beat over this. Not the article (or opinion collage, or whatever it is) and not the resulting discussion.

Forde struck while the iron was hot. I’m happy SI will be able to keep the lights on for another few months.

There might also be a difference in how I value the opinions of sports journalists. If we’re talking straight up opinions, a 50 year veteran sports journalist who has interviewed the greatest players and covered the biggest stories would have opinions of equal value to my neighbor who just kind of enjoys watching sports.

If we’re talking about facts and investigations and analysis of the sport, that’s where the journalist has value.

Well, we only have 3 days left according to 181.

It really doesn't matter who the reporter is anymore, when the head coach makes an a** of himself, it needs to be reported.
You don't go around accusing other teams in your conference of doing something wrong in an interview.
He embarrassed the University, and needs
to be let go after this year.
The longer he stays the worse it will get.
