Unless a recruit has signed his NLI, everything is fair game.

We've flipped recruits on Signing Day, and we've lost kids too.
Yep,

I remember football last year had a transfer from Coastal Carolina, get flipped to NC St

Since theres no NLI for transfers, are they more fair game until they enroll or are they off limits when they sign financial aid paperwork?

There is no way, no way at all, that we were on this kid after he said he was going to Duke. Just not the way JB does business. I don't believe Jb would do that even if Tape said he was going to Seton Hall.

well maybe not JB himself...

I don’t go there. Too many players to keep track of; too difficult to assess.
This type of thing happens a lot?

Not only does it happen a lot, but it's not totally uncommon for a kid to commit and not be allowed to sign because the school has recruited over him. Much more common in football than in basketball, but it happens in both. See Battle, Tyus and Tucker, Jordan.

Tape is going to worm his way to us? that is scary considering how skinny most of our guys are already.
I don’t like the idea of us “flipping” a kid. What does that even mean? He committed to dook and we continued to communicate with him? If we had secured a commitment and dook or any other program kept after that kid and convinced him to renege, his board would go apeschtuff. ‘Weird’ that no one seems to be bothered by this. I’d be super happy to get him, but I hope we were way over on the right side of ethics here. Even if it is against a team we collectively are mandated to hate.

Not sure what happened, but flipping occurs every day in recruiting.

Right, but that would be different from a characterization of us “flipping” him.

I’m sure it’s all ‘gray’ areas, but like I said—if K were still calling one of our recruits after we got a verbal commit, and he managed to get a decommit, we’d go nucular[sic].

It’s happened to us numerous times over the years in a number of sports.

In basketball, how many kids have we had verbal to us and then flip?

In response to: did an underclassman (non-freshmen) ever redshirt??/ Reply: Siock or Gorman redshirt jr. year??
Rautins. Devo Carey, Braswell, Washington ( injuries, I know.)

(I don't know why this .gif won't work. ugh.)

From OrangeHoops
Gorman did the unusual and redshirted what would have been his junior season, in a effort to have time to improve his strength and skills.
