I was listening to XM radio this afternoon, and there were two national guys discussing the ACC and the fact that it was a down year. To be honest I only listened for a few minutes because I ended up taking a call but before I did the discussion changed to their frustration that Syracuse has not paid its dues in the ACC yet. They premise was the old guard expected when Syracuse, Pitt and Notre Dame joined they would struggle in some games and have to learn how to play in the ACC. In fact one guy went on about how the BC game was a great example of how it is tough to go on the road against a lesser opponent in the ACC and Syracuse should have lost because they need to learn those lessons in ACC. I could not believe my ears. I get that we will have to earn respect in a new league and will be treated as outsiders but to have to pay our dues and to say JB will have to learn some lessons is crazy to me! We did not just upgrade from the Ivey League, or SEC ;) for that matter... some of us see it as a downgrade from the Big East.. When we roll this league this year the old guard will have to line up to kiss our ring! I guess the only one learning a lesson was me, tuning into XM at the wrong time of day.

Pretty asinine, "lazy" analysis if that was their premise.

The reality is 40 % of the teams we play or will play were in our league before. Its not a radical change. Basically the ACC had a focused merger with the BE in 2 steps 2004 and now. Plus I am in the camp where I will start crowing about us shredding the BE in about 3-4wks. Talent wise, and how we play I am sold. Too many road games left and they are always a crapshoot.

That's funny. I was wearing a 'Cuse pullover today at work (in Raleigh) and had a State fan tell me thank you for helping give the ACC some credibility this year. He also said he's terrified of what we're going to do to them in the Dome. I interact with a lot of State, UNC, and Duke fans and I'd say most are equal parts blown away with our athleticism and frustrated with their own teams. I think a lot of the bitterness toward us stems from the struggles on Tobacco Road.

I heard the show. Wasn't that bad really, to me they sounded more disappointed in the ACC, while Pitt ans SU were 33-1 and 8-0 in conference, they couldn't say much and admitted it.

What got me were the preseason mags that mostly had us 3rd.
Behind Guess Who?
Nice little squad you got there Syracuse, but not really Duke and UNC caliber.
One down, one to go.

When you have the best freshman in the country, and the best transfer, but you are now 23rd in the polls because you have no idea how to defend {Duke}. After the Plumlee's left none of the new people want to do the dirty work. That's the problem with these one and downs, too many are concerned about getting theirs, they forget about the team.

Alot of bottom feeders in the acc only difference is they have money unlike providence, seton hall, rutgers, and south florida.

But syracuse, duke, unc, ville, ND and pitt(good for a occasional sweet 16) will be solid.

just wait until louisville gets here...i look forward to many seasons of the most current BE schools holding down the top spots

4 BE schools...my point exactly

Notre Dame would be feasting if not for an injury. The Ville will do the same next year. Duke and N Carolina will come back, but the rest of the league will be down forever. The grunge will find it impossible to compete for talent with the likes of Cuse, Ville, Duke and the Heels. The grunge of the Big East never had a chance and neither will the ACC grunge. The bottom feeders lack any big name coaches to get them over the hump. Perhaps, Miami has the only shot for a break out. The ACC will not become a reincarnation of the old Big East. However, they will still grab more than their share of NC's.

Syracuse, Louisville, Duke, and UNC will pull in big time talent. Pitt and ND will be what they have been as long as Dixon and Brey are coaching those respective teams. Dixon is starting to go after better talent (at least according to rankings) but that does not matter if he does not land them and get them on campus. I could see teams like Miami, FSU, and NC State having teams every one in a while where they really compete.

General James Tecumseh Sherman Boeheim marching through the south... kinda thing seems to always tick em off down here.

As an SU grad, I first wondered, "Who?"
First name actually William...but I understand why they don't use the real name in the South.

Known for the quote, "War is hell." But I like this one much better. These are the men who won the Civil War, and it's the same for a lot of us, I think:

“Grant stood by me when I was crazy, and I stood by him when he was drunk, and now we stand by each other.”
