This is the stuff Wildhack can’t put into an extension. And if you are a coach who has had 14 stops and flat-out loves the game, you want that.
Wildhack won’t be the reason we lose our HC if we do. It’s quite literally us and the culture we don’t have.
sure, but that describes what, half a dozen programs? Ten? Those programs are bigger, richer, and more prestigious. I have bad news for you - Syracuse will never, ever, ever be that. Syracuse could win the next 5 national championships in a row and it won't change the fact that it is a smallish (relative to land grant state schools), private school located in the northeast, which doesn't produce high numbers of top shelf talent and whose culture doesn't deify football.
I wouldn't begrudge any Syracuse football coach for leaving for one of those type programs. The good news is that those are elite jobs and they don't come up very often, and when they do come up, the candidates tend to be highly qualified with proven track records of success. It isn't easy to get one of the jobs.
Outside of those elite jobs, there are certainly schools/jobs that are currently higher than Syracuse on the pecking order, but are not inherently something that is in a different league from what Syracuse could become. Provided the money is there, I think Syracuse could make a compelling case to stay.
Comparing Syracuse to that first group will only lead to frustration and isn't helpful. So yes, the Penn State crowd is rocking tonight. Good on them. Doesn't change the fact that attendance is down in the aggregate across the country and most program don't have 100k lunatics screaming in the stands.
