I'm almost reluctant to post this, because it is no guarantee, but I have reason to believe the decision is trending toward returning.

If you put a gun to my head, I'd say he's coming back.

It's the first time I've truly believed we'd see Battle for a 3rd season.

so now you heart can be properly broken

As many have pointed out, from a purely basketball perspective, it's a tough decision - stay or go? Sounds like the outcome re: NBA would/may be about the same: G League. Probably boils down to the 3 yr degree being the difference. Nothing really to lose if he stays, a degree and a post-basketball career to gain. Staying is the smart choice, and this seems like a very smart and level headed family. Rooting for Tyus regardless of the choice, but of course hope he stays.

Even if the kid wants to come back I see nothing wrong with him declaring and working out at the combine just for the experience and being ready for the next year.

He should declare even if he wants to come back.
The issue with that, I think, is school. Hard to maintain his GPA if he is gone for the last 4 weeks of the semester. That's why it could be all or nothing. Could be wrong.

Luv ya Jake! But if he ends up entering the draft, the secretary will disavow any knowledge of your existence!

How is hard to keep your GPA?
Going to class isn’t even required for most classes as it always papers, test, or projects.

He doesn’t have to go to class to ace class work. I hope he stays.

How many times are you going to continue with this false narative?

We JUST HAD Lydon, Battle, and Oshae come back.
I'm talking about guys who were borderline guys. Most people thought battle and my son were coming back for their soph year. No one realistically thought Oshae was going anywhere.

I feel like Lydon after his freshmen year was probably similar to Battle this year, no?

I think he could have been end of the first round but I don't ever think he seriously considered leaving or anyone was really worried about it.

I don't think, imo, it has anything to do with him "wanting" to come back vs. facing the piper. If he gets a promise that he'll be picked in the first round, he's 100% gone. But, therein lies the real issue, if he rolls the dice without a guarantee of a 1st round pick, the probable reality is he's a 2nd rounder with no guaranteed coin. This is what is holding him up, not his love, etc. for our beloved Orange. Though, I'm not doubting his love for Syracuse, but rest assured, this is a business decision.

Ummm...
I graduated with a good GPA and missed classes.
Most people miss classes.
The truth is college is the Socratic method now. Most classes which are lectures are pointless. Professors don’t really “teach” you anything it’s up to the person to do the reading and work for classes.
Just attending classes is pointless. Plus these players miss classes all time during the season.

I would say it’s possible that Marek is a better passer than Bazley. Bazley looks to be an unselfish player who can pass too, but not sure he’s as good at that as Marek.

Overall I would’ve expected a freshman Bazley to be better than Marek, and I don’t think anyone saying otherwise would’ve said otherwise a few weeks ago.

Even so, I’d be more than fine with bringing back both of our starting forwards from the end of this season - provided we had a forward off the bench that can play. The lack of depth caused by Bazley not coming is what might hurt the most. Brissett-Marek are fine as the starters:

Good post. I think the other interesting thing to watch is what happens if we actually sign Golden. It's an alternate universe hypothetical, obviously, but I think the case could be made that Golden is actually the *better* recruit from a program perspective if two things are/would have been true:

1. Bazely didn't end up leading us to a final four. So let's say he was a Melo-like figure who leads us to a great regular season (25+ wins) and top four finish in the ACC ... BUT we fall short of the final weekend in the sweet 16, for example. I personally would think it was awesome in retrospect even if we were disappointed after the loss, but ultimately either way you're starting over again in 19/20 with Bazely and most likely Brissett gone. There's no debating it was a great season but those would be two big holes to fill with only Marek returning, potentially, and losing Chuckwu. Obviously if you go the final four, the point is moot and you're fine knowing you might have to reconstruct the team on the fly.

2. Golden comes in and is a solid addition to the program for four years. How long he actually stays is anybody's guess but if he comes in, plays sparingly in year 1, becomes a solid member of the rotation in year 2 and is a key contributor in years 3 and 4, then he's a really valuable guy in terms of re-establishing a bit of stability to this program. That's no joke.

No idea how this will turn out or if we'll even get Golden, but it's an interesting thought to ponder with the whole Bazely situation.

Basketball players miss a ton of classes during season...missing more in the post season is not insignificant as it's often the time when they olay "catch-up".

I honestly don't remember, anyone with a better memory than me?
