It’s not. But most people don’t listen
I figured. Soooo, we know he’s being retained for next season. But if he is let go after that, should we assume that a termination buyout is a couple million at most?

Same

Like you, not calling anyone out. But it would make zero sense for an experienced executive like wild hat, who is used to dealing with these type of contracts from his time at espn, to make a mistake like this.

And again, not disputing nor calling anyone out, but I'm wondering if it is just something that has been embellished to rationalize why we need to keep red for another season or more.
Yes I'm wondering if they are leaking inflated numbers as to a false reason to justify the blind loyalty for Year 3 just because they don't want to set a precedent for firing an alum after 2 seasons.

Deshaun at least had a stellar track record before being found out a criminal. I can see an organization like the Browns, who at worst are a $4 billion franchise, in the NFL which prints money, taking a significant financial risk on an established & talented QB in the best league in the world where maybe only 30 of those guys exist at best. The contract will most certainly not work out in the Browns favor and I probably wouldn’t have offered it. BUT

SU is a financially conservative, limited resources university coming off a decade long decline, and bid against themselves for a guy with ZERO track record as a head coach. He hasn’t even been a high school head coach.
Orange Nation corrected me when I said Red has never been a head coach

They cited some under 21 usa college all star team or something for some international summer tournament.
Not the same as running a program year round.

So curious how much influence came from the BoT on Reds contract. I am a fan of what ADJW has done for the most part. I would be surprised if he was the guy who agreed to the guaranteed 5 years because for Reds experience, 5 years could not have been considered market. $3m yeah I can see that but 5 years guaranteed? That feels higher up in the food chain. Did the long term donors I have read about who back Red, were they influencing anything maybe? Seems off.

In that sense, Ryan Blackwell has significantly more head coaching experience than Red. SMH

If long term doners influenced his contract structure then they can be the ones that pony up the dough for the buyout.

Not much different from comprehending a return for Year 3 even though Red will be basically starting over next year. Might as well start over with someone who has actually HAD success...
Who?

They basically got suckered into paying a $6M ante, but are now holding 10-2 offsuit.
Now they’re going to pay $3M more to see the flop b/c it’s viewed as a sunk cost and, hey, worked out pretty good for Johnny Chan?
But if the flop comes up 5-9-Q, they fold, despite the allure of paying $6M to see if the straight pops up?
Sound about right?
It was Doyle Brunson with the 10 2 but other than that...

He can quit or be fired.

If fired then he’s owed money. Again all depends on how the contract is written. You can’t just verbally alter the terms if the contract language doesn’t allow for it.

Didn't they spend a much on the Dome? What was that for?

I don't believe that for a second. I have to think if we could get out of this contract cheap right now, we would. Or at least be thinking about it. And we aren't hearing anything about anyone with any juice saying it is on the table.

Yeah I don't necessarily disagree and for clarity I am not saying the influence would be direct but side discussions, topics over dinner or lunch about donations, etc.. I have heard from others on the board here that there are pockets within the BoT of people who will "stump" for stuff as a group. No idea, just that people who think ADJW makes final decisions on multi million dollar contracts for the university, I think they are off base. It's above his pay grade is my thinking. Influential? Yes. Makes the call on certain things like guarantees? I bet not.
