100% right. This is shocking if true. Utterly shocking. JW needs to be called out for this level of absolute incompetence if this is the case. How do you not learn your lesson, or at least be cautious, after the Babers debacle?! ADJW might have just signed his own death sentence because this program will be dead by the time Autry get fired. God help us.
So curious how much influence came from the BoT on Reds contract. I am a fan of what ADJW has done for the most part. I would be surprised if he was the guy who agreed to the guaranteed 5 years because for Reds experience, 5 years could not have been considered market. $3m yeah I can see that but 5 years guaranteed? That feels higher up in the food chain. Did the long term donors I have read about who back Red, were they influencing anything maybe? Seems off.
We could fire for cause and do what UConn did to Ollie. Greasy yes but justified bc he's been so terrible. If fired then he’s owed money. Again all depends on how the contract is written. You can’t just verbally alter the terms if the contract language doesn’t allow for it.
Ollie won a lawsuit against Uconn for their “probable cause” firingWe could fire for cause and do what UConn did to Ollie. Greasy yes but justified bc he's been so terrible.

It’s not. But most people don’t listen
So many insiders have been saying roughly this for months.
5 year contract. Published reports said $2.5-3M per year. There is probably an escalator clause. We shouldn't be surprised, but it truly is about the worst contract ever.
You are putting JB on Wildhack? I don't. Impossible situation and would bet JB has close friends in the BoT providing him "air support " for years. That was a unicorn situation with a Hall a famer who built it and almost burned it to the ground. In regards to Dino, 99% of the people on this board wanted him extended after the bowl game. The Red hire should have been a search. I don't like the contract but again I would wager BoT interests and other influences played a role in who got hired. Does ADJW have authority on certain things? Absolutely. You think he has control over things like Hall of Fame coaches with friends on the BoT and who then literally goes mental at the end? No way. He's raised money, but he completely botched Boeheim's departure. He let Dino be mediocre and unengaged for a long time. And this Red hire is hot trash, if he gave him a 5 year contract.
Actually, several people just today have said that the buyout is not nearly as big as some have suggested. I tend to believe them.So many insiders have been saying roughly this for months.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Utter malpractice if it’s true. Wildhack’s head needs to roll if he gave an unproven head coach a 5 year contract at $3 million per year. What a fool. I really hope this is just a bad rumor. In theory, if the buyout this offseason is 9 million, does that mean the buyout next offseason is 6 million and we are supposed to believe that Syracuse will pay for that?
I hope you’re right. It’s not. But most people don’t listen
Can’t afford the buyout.Get rid of Wildhack
So basically any decision that has worked out credit goes to Wildhack. Those that didn't, don't blame Wildhack, blame the BOT.You are putting JB on Wildhack? I don't. If you don’t ever want to be a head coach again you can agree to the salary demands. If you believe in yourself you try to prove you can get the job done. If you get fired you’re done as a head coach at a power four conference. If fired then he’s owed money. Again all depends on how the contract is written. You can’t just verbally alter the terms if the contract language doesn’t allow for it.
Because outside of Red killing someone, they were never going to do that. JW was very clear with donors and anyone who would listen at beginning of season that he thought talent pool was empty when Red took over and he needed time. They thought he did a very good job last year. They’re high on the incoming class. And they know they needed to spend more on NIl.I don't believe that for a second. I have to think if we could get out of this contract cheap right now, we would. Or at least be thinking about it. And we aren't hearing anything about anyone with any juice saying it is on the table.
There are always up and comers.if we lose out on some of the great up and coming options to give one more year…
Humble brag. Well done. They raised a million yesterday alone from one person. I was called yesterday afternoon to donate myself.
Saying the talent was dry is fine, but when you lose Edwards, Girard, Mintz, and Brown because we were told they all weren’t good enough to replace them with players with worse production fans lose patience quickly. Every replacement we have signed in the portal has been a step down from the previous guy.Because outside of Red killing someone, they were never going to do that. So then do you change the goalposts and fire an alum for one bad portal (especially given all the Kiyan stuff). We got more buzz from alums and SU bball fans for that commitment than anything else in the past five years. I know that overlooks everything else we see in games but that is the reality.
I know it’s controversial but this isn’t a money decision. It’s a sticking by what we told Red and what the expectations were. We’re just not a program that flips on coaches like that.
The expectations next year are totally different.
Right. I don’t disagree. The portal was awful. But that means firing him for one bad offseason. He knew he screwed that up and needed a GM type. He got one. If he screws up again, there’s no excuse and he’s gone.Saying the talent was dry is fine, but when you lose Edwards, Girard, Mintz, and Brown because we were told they all weren’t good enough to replace them with players with worse production fans lose patience quickly. Beginning of this season? That’s not what filtered down to gen pop. I don’t dispute what you’ve been told, I don’t buy it as excuse.JW was very clear with donors and anyone who would listen at beginning of season that he thought talent pool was empty when Red took over and he needed time. I don't believe they thought the talent pool was empty when he took over in 23. He inherited JBs best recruiting class ever for their sophomore year. It was year 2 of the 2 year plan w them that includes not using the portal to recruit over them when they were freshman. Then add JJ, Chance, Mcloud, Cuffe. Losing Girard was thought no big deal, losing Edwards did sting a bit though.Because outside of Red killing someone, they were never going to do that. Never underestimate the power of Syracuse narrativesI’m not challenging anyone, but I’m also very skeptical that there’s a buyout that high. It makes no sense.
Well President boeheim shouldThe football team is packing the house and going to bowl games because of JW. His job is safer than most of ours.
