Class of 2018 PF Bryce Golden (MD) to Butler

It's a pretty damn good get less than 7 days after the Bazely bombshell.

Actually sets up better in some respects long term.

I'm not going to falsely raise people's hopes because I still don't think Tyus comes back, but if he did I like this roster better than what we were looking at prior to 4/1.
I agree this kid would be good as a program kid but I would trade 1 year of Bazely for 4 of him. The Bazely thing is just an absolute kick to the nuts and nothing we add will equal it. I like this kids game though.

Alsacs was not right. At all. The staff tried adding Valdmir Manuel while we had Baz and MM in the fold for crying out loud. Then we lose two forwards and Alsacs claims that some source tells him SU is done, and he believes it.

The "things change" bit is really lame. Yeah, things changed from our offer to Valdmir -we lost 2 forwards. So it made no sense to believe the staff would stop looking for the right person. None. And now we know they haven't, in less than what, a week?
Feel better?

Looks like Golden was on an early list of possible recruits for Syracuse. Don't know why he was not mention earlier in the recruiting season. It may have been his shoulder injury kept from early playing time or when Bazley committed, Syracuse did not have a need for another forward.

Anyway, he would be different from most forwards Syracuse brings in. He has some bulk and an good offensive skill set.

yup. trading golden for bazley would be like trading matt gorman for carmelo. and i don't mean that as a knock on either bryce or matty.

bazley, with his skill set - and, more importantly, skill level, is irreplaceable in this class.
golden is replacing moyer. and in that he looks like an upgrade in skills, but not experience.

if you have the right mentality, it doesn’t mater if you are 6’7”, 6’8” or 6’9” power forward...if you want to board...you board...funny thing is if this young man was a legit 6’8” no one would even have a problem but 1inch shorter and he is no good? Ummm ok...

This. I hope if we land Golden he will be a solid 4 year contributor. Can't exoeexmore than that. But to think this in any way makes up for Bazley is crazy. dB is a once a decade at best talent for SU.

DB is a once a decade, at best, talent for SU. And any concerns about DB being a me first player with only the league on his mind, I have confidence JB could handle that. He has proven repeatedly that he knows how to manage his star players. JB has some faults but in this area I think he is as good as anyone.

Nothing we can do at this point about DB. Really is a shame and I just don't see how this is a good move for him. And that is not with orange tinted glasses on. But if we can sign Golden, and if somehow TB returns, I think SU could be a top 10-15 squad and compete for the final weekend.

As nice as it is to have a guy on the hill for 4 years that consistently gets better, I'd be thrilled if he was good enough to go to the NBA after 2 or 3 years and be drafted. Win win I suppose.

I'm all for a guy that throws a change of pace from the current players. I get a guy that fits the type Boeheim wants but sometimes you need a guy that can do things your the rest of the roster can not do. If you have a bunch of guys that can just throw fastballs and meet a team that can hit those 100 mph heaters...it's nice to have a guy that can change the speed with change ups and curves. Hopefully he can play in 18/19.

Jake made a good point though - IF Tyus comes back and IF we get Golden; that roster is better than Bazley coming in and both Tyus/Golden not being here.

Obviously Battle's decision is in no way based on what Bazley did, but I think many of us anticipated losing Battle and gaining Bazley.

We need a kid like this year, he seems like someone to me that will improve every year but also be able to contribute right away.

The roster is coming together nicely; hopefully Tyus shocks all of us and comes back for a chance at Final 4.

Tyus really shouldn't come back I mean how much higher will the kid go in the draft? Just my opinion. If he did great.

He could go 1st round.
