Class of 2018 PF Bryce Golden (MD) to Butler

yup. trading golden for bazley would be like trading matt gorman for carmelo. and i don't mean that as a knock on either bryce or matty.

bazley, with his skill set - and, more importantly, skill level, is irreplaceable in this class.
golden is replacing moyer. and in that he looks like an upgrade in skills, but not experience.
That sounds like a huge reach.

How? He is right. Golden would hopefully be a solid rotation piece for a few years. An important player but no more of an impact than the average player in any recruiting class. Bazley is as good as any player we have brought in since Melo.

We all get excited by potential commitments but let's be intellectually honest about who the players are.

How tall was Otis Hill?
Otis Hill was listed at 6'8" but may have been a little less like 6'7' and 1/2 to 3/4.
His younger brother, Trey used to cut my hair when I lived in Georgia a couple of years ago.
We would talk about Otis and what he is doing these days.

I guess Butler is out greatest competition here. Kids from Virginia and ACC plays in and around so would be great for his family. Pitt is ACC. We are ACC. Might matter to him especially with our recent performance and potential

let me revise & extend: bazley is irreplaceable in this class, but the 2018-19 squad may be able to replace his expected contribution through sophomore leaps from oshae & marek

Paul Harris and cmac were highly rated as well. Melo is a once in a generational player bazely isn't in the same universe.Don't remember where Gorman wad rated but golden is a top 100 guy.

Gorman was ranked 100th by Hoop Scoop & 109th by Gibbon's All Star Sports in '02.

I actually think Bazley is more like MCCaulaugh and to be honest I really wasn’t all that impressed. He was also a string bean coming here and you
Knew he was a one and done as well

Bazley is head and shoulders better than McCullough at the same stage. Bazley is a better ball handler, passer and shooter by a large margin. McCullough was a stretch 4 while Bazley is 3 with point forward skills.

Tobias Harris 2.0?

In comparison, 24By 7 has Bryce ranked 200.

While nobody is predicting Ty will stay, it seems the odds have increased from near 0% to maybe 25% based on some posts and links on the BB forum.

If Ty were to come back, then, I think that could impact recruiting Golden. Our backcourt would be overloaded. Ty and/or Hughes could conceivably play at SF. If Golden wasn't coming here originally because of Baz, if Ty come back, I would see the situation no better for him in terms of getting minutes next season.

So, if Ty comes back, clearly four of our starters are Chuk, Ty, Frank, and Oshae. The fifth starter would be one of Carey, Marek, or Hughes.

In order get all of that talent a reasonable amount of minutes, some minutes for Ty or Hughes would have to spill over to the front court. And all of that is not even mentioning Buddy.

I did not watch a lot of golden videos. he looked solid in the ones that i saw. I would like to see him as part of our program, but as a frosh I simply would not seeing him earning rotational minutes if you add Ty to the mix.

So my bottom line is that if Golden is looking for freshman minutes, then if Ty returns, I would not see him coming to the Cuse.

If Tyus returned he would never play SF. He played it last year when the need was dire. I don't see that happening next year, especially not if golden comes, which I don't think is affected at all by Tyus returning. Carey/Buddy affected the most.

Last season there was zero backcourt depth that is why Ty did not play any SF. Next season will be the opposite. I can't say if ty or hughes would be better getting some minutes at SF, but one of them will see some time there next season. Golden as a frosh will not be better than Marek. I doubt he would be better than Ty or Hughes playing frontcourt. Where will his minutes come from ???

You know Jimmy will not go more than 7 1/2 deep.

The only thing I did not like a lot about Golden was his size. if he were 6'9" then it might be different. At his 6'7" or so he really does not have much of a size advantage over Ty or Hughes. He clearly will not have a strength advantage.

I would only see end of bench minutes for him w Ty in the mix.
