Class of 2018 PF Bryce Golden (MD) to Butler

I would be ecstatic if we get this kid.
He would have no pressure next year and it would be a development prospect for 2-3 years down the road.
We need this kid for depth and if we get him good job.
We need to use scholarships and he would give us a legit injury protection body.

Could have sworn you said we have no plans to add anyone else and that the current roster is the plan. You cited your inside sources and expert insiders. It sounds like our plan is to add someone, yes?

Some people care a lot about being right on a message board I guess.

Fact is the staff was not going to just add someone to have a roster spot filled. At the time, Alsacs was accurate. It wasn’t etched in stone we wouldn’t add someone. That was the feeling even after Baz de-committed because there wasn’t a helpful player out there.

We were still trying to add to the class, despite what alscaps said. And losing Bazely made it even more critical to add someone. The op tried to make it seem like the staff (Boehiem) was sitting on hands, doing nothing.

He was available before Baz but not necessarily an option at the time.
Could it be that the staff liked Golden, but he saw few minutes available with Baz coming in, but when Baz made his decision, it made for a much more appealing situation for Golden and I may have just broken the record for having the longest run-on sentence in board history?

desperation breeds interest. Chance provides opportunity?

While Baze was still in the program, I doubt Syracuse had much interest. Now that Mr. G League is gone, Syracuse is desperate for Forward depth. Pitt fired its coach, so Golden has a valid reason to cut bait. He now is amongst the better Forwards available in the East, now he has better options. He is lucky to have better options.

All Syracuse fans should know that, though it's not great to lose a recruit late, sometimes it works out alright (Hak)

I am biased, but personally, I think JB should put on the full court press to get Golden. Nothing but good can come from the move.

I believe you are correct.

Alex Lomax signed his NLI to Wichita St but asked out in March to follow Penny Hardaway to Memphis. WSU said ok and he'll be free to go, with no penalty.

Devonte Graham attempted to get out of his NLI to Appalachian St. They said no to the release, so he went to prep school for a year before going to Kansas.

explanation

Then you have Braxton Beverly who had started classes at Ohio State before they let Thad Matta go last June. The NCAA granted him eligibility for this past season at the last minute after negative PR. Ohio State had released him from his NLI back in June when he wanted out.

As long as Pitt doesn't act a fool, Golden should be fine playing for whoever he wants this upcoming season...

They wont make that mistake again after cam johnson debacle

Golden played for Team Takeover (w/ Jalen Smith and Brandon Slater) in the EYBL last year...
He averaged 8.5 points, shot 47% from the field, shot 59% from the line, shot 25% from three, and 4.5 rebounds in 13 minutes.

Pretty sure I saw this kid play against Bazely at Peach Jam. He jumped the tip off against Bazely. Thought he played pretty well. He seems smaller than 6-9. 6-6 or 6-7 it seemed.

Went back and looked. 4-5 from the floor. 8 pts.

Ding ding ding. They weren't going 5th year transfer unless something really unbelievable presented itself.

Golden wasn't coming here with Bazely in front of him. Mutual communication began once Bazely decommitted. Now we're very close.

Doors were never closed on adding to 2018...but the right situation had to present itself. It did.

I would also add that it still says "Syracuse" on the jersey. people noticed we had a spot open.

I got something right? Could you tell my wife it finally happened?

Exactly. And the staff does like the current roster but also recognize the need for depth at the forward slot.

Alsacs was right then. And he is right now. Things change. If we can land this kid, it will be great. If we can't, unless something really unexpected happens, we won't. The staff really doesn't want to go the 5th year grad route.

I could see us landing someone else if a similar situation arises to Golden’s. I think if we got him, we’d be done for ‘18. Adding another transfer (not a 5th year!) is possible, someone who can help us fill the many openings we have in the following year.
