Class of 2022 PF Kyle Filipowski (MA) Offered

I went to an A10 school with a better “gym” than the dump that is Cameron Indoor

This is an incredibly stupid argument... If they did the draft straight out of high school, Duke would have had more guys drafted and Syracuse less. Duke does little to get guys drafted, they just successfully recruit guys who will be drafted. Keeping it like it's a scorecard isn't reflective of anything other than respective quality of recruiting. If you only recruit top 30 players, realistically every single guy should get drafted in one of the two rounds. If you want to compare, look at % of top50 players drafted and % of lower ranked recruits drafted. I would get Syracuse does better in both categories.
Yes its incredibly stupid but making sure they have heard of Jordan Tucker because thats the more likely outcome is incredibly brilliant right?

He also should talk to Michael Gbinije about his experiences as a Duke and as a Syracuse Basketball player.
If we applied this way of thinking to all scenarios instead of just the ones that seem like they would be in our favor then we would be screwed if we ever ended up in a recruiting battle with Lasalle.

I don't imagine that kids that have their choice of any school in the country are really planning on not getting more than 5mpg like Gbinije did 10 years ago at Duke. Sure it's a possibility but the players certainly aren't thinking that way.

I don't know that there's anyone who loathes Duke more than I do, but would anybody really fault him for choosing to go there?

The good news for us is that he's a downstate kid from an area where we've recently had success and put kids in the NBA, Coach K will be gone, and Duke is actively recruiting higher rated guys at the same position. He might not be a priority for them the same way he is for us -- as one of the highest rated guys atop our recruiting board.

Everybody’s kidding about how Duke is such an awful choice, right?
I don't think it's an awful choice, but I think it's far from a no-brainer. Guys who just pick the biggest name often regret it-See Tucker, Jordan. Flip has a comfort level with Justin Taylor and can play closer to family in the same conference for a Hall of Fame Coach in front of 30,000+ in the Dome. We've got a lot to offer.

Maybe a bit old school here but I don’t think you win by telling the buyer how bad the others are. You win by telling them what differentiates you from the rest and why you are the right decision. Highlight your positives.

So, it may be Copeland, Lands, Taylor and Bunch. That would be one Top 50 guy. Interesting with all the names we were involved with this cycle.

Holding out hope for JJ as I think he's the best still available if we miss on Flip

I got the “info ask” out right now but I know my source has never felt good on this forefront. Unfortunately, I think for Centers and those pf/c tweeners, we’re gonna have to play in the transfer pool (I actually dont mind that at all). I would love Flip and think he would do SO well here but he’s got the big boys after him and exposure is a big key for him and we dont compare with Duke and others in that department

It’s remarkable how quick the narrative can switch this these guys. After Taylor committed it felt like Flip was not only a possibility but maybe we were the front runners. I think Taylor is our best draw at this point. Hard to think that will outweigh the hype and prestige Duke brings

Call JB old school too. Have to believe this is his approach as this is what he preaches. I hope the assistants are on the same page. In the end, you end up with better character.

We still have a chance. The five-star forward Mitchell just said he’ll decide by the end of the year and could go Duke. Duke will get Whitehead as the small forward, so Flip might have to beat out a five-star forward. They also might get Lively at center, who ESPN just moved all the way up to #10. Plus they’re in early with an offer to top ten 2023 big forward G.G. Jackson. Duke also has two five-star 6-5 guys coming in this year listed as shooting guards, including Griffin’s brother. Then if they get Whitehead at 6’6” they might have three five-star wings when Flip gets there. They can’t all play the 2 and at least one will be a 3. Flip would probably start every game for us.
