Not the “sexy” pick up but the guys you need. If he stays healthy he’s definitely an upgrade over Souare. Have to think about these guys in practice too. During practice do you think Souare and his talents were helping other bigs get better everyday by going against them? No. This kid is better than Souare. He’s a big body. Not overly athletic. But he’s skilled, big, and he’s a really good rebounder. Not gonna blow you away offensively but skilled enough to get some baskets. He’s not a big time run protector but he’s big enough where you aren’t gonna back him down and he stays in front of his guy. Really his biggest asset is rebounding and he’s a plus screen setter (extremely important and underrated trait for a big man)

From what I understand [and there are lots of closet Siena fans who might have more detail], this guy was their starter at the beginning of the season at center. He only played about 10 games, before being injured -- then they shifted to Mulvey as the starter.

Averaged 9 and 7 as the starting center. Limited data set / number of games, but seems like he has size and can board.
Mulvey was injured too. He only started the last 5 games of Siena’s season which included the NCAA’s. They were snakebit with injuries. He only started after their starting player was prevented by the NCAA to play any more games.

I like this move as a depth piece for sure. Like others have said you need guys who know their role, who can fill minutes, etc without costing a pretty penny. Personally I’d rather hold onto a big man who’s worked with and is comfortable with his coaches than at another position. And just like everyone I’d love a more proven guy to fill minutes but part of that is greed and it’s gonna be hard enough to find a good starting center. I think the key will be having someone who can slide between the 4 and 5 too.

Precursor move to having enough NIL for bidding war additions at the 5 and/or PG. In that context alone, adding players like Goodrick (and Folefac) is a savvy move. Obviously, the most difficult part of that equation is yet to come.
I think it’s a good strategy. Shore up your bench, depth, and wing positions so you know how much you have to spend on the two most important positions on the court.

There is something to be said as well for having a few guys who understand what GMAC wants and how he operates his practices. I agree it’s a good strategy.

And why, to my way of thinking anyway, it makes way more sense to evaluate the roster as a whole at the end of the process rather than worrying about how many Siena players we are adding during the process.

This is the same type of guy that if he played for someone else would kill us yearly.
He’s PJ Hall at Clemson
He’s Luke Harangody at ND

Not saying he’s as good as them but we always get shredded by dudes around the same size and a really good post skill level.
Those guys are…. Quite a bit better, I’d imagine. But, they are definitely white!

I think a starter a Siena can be a fine bench piece here. At least we know they can play. We’ve had guys off the bench in recent years who can’t walk and chew gum.

For those in the know. What are his strengths and weaknesses?
To be honest, I didnt really watch any of the early Siena games.
I know he was their starting center, leading rebounder, second highest scorer.
They lost him in the Vermont game which was why the team, which was off to their best start in years, lost to Vermont and Indiana immediately thereafter.
Gerry spoke about what a huge blow it was to the team - they lost Mulvey literally the same time to a concussion as well.
So, Chandler was suddenly their starting center and it took him awhile to embrace the role.
The same Chandler they lost two weeks before the end of the season, but by then Mulvey was being eased back in.
Not for nothing, but with that double blow early in the season, another team might have wilted but the players embraced the challenge and just found a way to make it work.

We seem to be heading in the right direction. If nothing else, the roster construction to date suggests foresight. That's a refreshing change.

Plus, we just need more guys who can PLAY. Goodrick and Folefac are solid depth-pieces.
