South Dakota State topped Northern Iowa 37-22. “Not many FCS teams had been hotter than Northern Iowa since its regular-season win over South Dakota State, although, ironically, the Jackrabbits were one of them.” The Jackrabbits are probably sick of being confused with their northern cousins, North Dakota State, whom they beat 33-21 during the regular season. Might it be their turn to make some noise?

New Hampshire beat Southern Arkansas 21-15, thanks to four takeaways. They had 4 regular season losses, all to FCS teams but have now won 2 playoff games. They generated only 216 total yards in this one but they are still playing.

Newcomer, (it’s only the third year of their football program), Kennesaw State continued their surprising run, defeating playoff perennial Jacksonville State 17-7. “Kennesaw State relied on its defense to win this one. The Owls held superstar running back Roc Thomas to just 83 total yards on 22 touches and the Gamecocks had no answer once the Owls shut him down.”

Sam Houston State built up a 41-14 halftime lead on South Dakota and held on to win 54-42, which killed any dream of a match-up with South Dakota State in the finals. The final score is less shocking when you consider that these were the two top ranked offenses in the country.
