There’s a new No. 1 in the Inside Lacrosse Men’s Division I Media Poll.
How, you say, does that happen, when previously No. 1 Duke is still unbeaten? The short answer is there are three teams that have very compelling for the top spot, and they’re all essentially tied and splitting first-place votes, particularly as the Tar Heels and Terps lock up bigger, marquee wins.
North Carolina is the new No. 1 in the land —they have been in the coaches’ poll for a bit— after this week’s lacrosse action.
North Carolina beat Virginia, 16-13, in midweek action — a key win on ACC’s Thursday Night Lacrosse. Duke, meanwhile, drubbed High Point and Jacksonville since the last poll, but does not have the same signature wins as the Tar Heels.
Maryland, too, stole some first-place votes from Duke after beating Rutgers. A team with no apparent weakness, the Terps beat Rutgers in a Top 5 showdown this past weekend.
So there’s a clear top tier in the eyes of the voters (No. 4 Georgetown, at 4-0, has a big test Tuesday against Denver). If you want clarity, the coming weeks will bring it as ACC league play becomes more regular — including Duke vs. UNC on April 1.

2. Duke (6)

4. Georgetown
