Portal is a sheet show

So much talent still declaring for portal, Ohio state back up RB just entered, Bama receiver former 5 star just entered, get the check books ready!

over 4500 in the portal now!
Woooooowwwww... this is so many players that I bet even the teams are starting to be overwhelmed with the amount of players to choose from.

This is like Baskin & Robbins on Steroids that then did some Meth.

They should just put every CFB player's name in one bowl, and 105 names of every school in another. And then choose one player and one school and keep on going until both bowls are empty.

Seems as if that's what is happening anyway.

I watched the IU game on a 4k channel from FIOS. No commercials just a view from one of the end zones during TV timeouts. It really highlighted how much down time in the live action for the fans at the game. I preferred the no commercials but it seemed unfair to the fans who actually attended the game.
More time to pee and buy beer.

So doing a bit of research this evening. Gill is talking to ASU (turned them down last year), Louisville, TCU and Kentucky. Not getting from his family but from portal sites.
Sam Leavitt entered the portal with a "do not contact" note, which means he already know where he is going. OK. Something is wrong with that when deals are done before the portal opens.
It appears Leavitt is going to Kentucky. So Kentucky, which was a mediocre team this year is buying Leavitt, maybe Gill and a top RB also. They are buying quite a team here, if they all land there.

Georgia Tech is set to lose almost its entire offense to graduation and the transfer portal, and they could be in serious trouble because of it. This is one of the biggest downsides of the portal era — a team can be very good for a year or two, then suddenly get gutted. GT has been solid the past two seasons, but with that level of turnover, they’ll most likely slide back into irrelevance for the foreseeable future.

This is exactly why I don’t want to be one of those teams that builds primarily through the transfer portal. High school recruiting is still the most important piece in my opinion, because it creates continuity, development, and long-term stability instead of year-to-year turnover.

They can hang their hat on buying Leavit. Sims who is at his 3rd school had almost the same stats. I'm not sure Leavit is all that.

The rest of us? Mainly apathy from the fans.
The Dome was electric in 2024 (the portal gave us our best QB since McNabb), and wanted to be electric when it sold out for the Duke game due to the momentum from the Clemson win (which again was from a QB we acquired in the portal). The reason for apathy in 2025 is because we didn't have a QB who could throw the ball forward, not because of the portal.

Higher ratings for the NFL so they can charge more.
It is all relative. They can charge in proportion for college they don’t need longer and more frequent breaks on top of that.

The ratings wouldn’t justify charging more. There is a big difference in the brands advertising on the typical p4 college game vs the NFL.

Agree with the principle but we might not have a choice. It will be tough to keep our best players every year from being poached.

Your point is valid - that many of those guys were not (yet ...) contributors. But if we are a team that has to develop talent because we can't afford to shop at the top end of the market, then you have to keep more of those guys. They might not have contributed yet, but those are the guys you are hoping to coach up into starters by their 2nd or 3rd seasons. Just as they're getting good, they leave.
My view for the future is that college football appeal will gradually decrease as the older fans eventually vanish. The sport is simply not developing a younger loyal fan base. College football is headed for hard times if something does not change and soon.

It won't be too much longer before the current model is all the younger fanbase has known. It will be "normal" to them.

How many PENN ST kids have we poached ? no bowl game to prep for . we should be killing the portal .
didn't SYRACUSE hire and pay some young genius to do just this sort of research ? where are they ?
when you finish dead last in your conference you need to take a major swing and not just rely on incoming HS frosh who haven't taken a D1 snap. please tell me we have identified and landed some solid starters .
