Post Brooklyn Beatdown

JB sucked for a decade. Red hasn’t shown the ability to create a roster any better than the putrid JB years. It’s a continuation of the JB slide without a 2-3 zone. Same program flaws with the assistant coach as head coach.
It's upsetting how clear it is... if you let yourself see it

We’re 11 years removed from being a top 15 program. Heck we are 4 years removed from the bubble era.

We need a complete reboot from a culture standpoint. I’m not even sure what JB stood for at the end. His supposed best recruiting class had a number of knuckleheads too.
I think back to watching us dismantle Indiana in the tourney as well as that first ACC year. Those first Duke and UNC wins in the dome. We were at the forefront of college basketball and it felt like it would never end.

The fact that we are positioning Kyle Cuffe into a key piece speaks volumes about where we are as a program.

He's a fine player who got hurt a couple times. He got a scholarship to Kansas and was a 4 star guy. He's not chopped liver, but he's just not getting a chance.

It's clearly Carlos who we missed on, no matter how much Red wants to give him a chance to work it out.

Chris Bell gets a block under 2:00 minutes, comes back down & has a wide open 3 to cut the lead to 2... you didn't jump up & walk around when he let it go?!
Absolutely not. I also just got back from a 5.5h car ride in the rain right as game started, so maybe that was part of it. But I never actually thought we were winning either.

Amazingly there was only one PG portal guy available…..oh wait

And the whole board was explaining in detail how important getting one of them was.

Yeah this place wanted Mack, Richmond, Roach, and Reynolds, who never entered.

Common denominator is...

JC is in over his head, in is own head, whatever. Our best play is more Choppa and Taylor and hope Chance is ready by January.

Choppa needs the bulk of the minutes with Taylor getting 10-15. Choppa can score and brings energy. Think he will be a good one for us.

I know that you know what Lampkin got paid. Please stop this charade. We chose a center and hoped to get lucky on a PG on the cheap (relatively). It could have been the other way but Red felt like center was more important. I disagreed then, I disagree now.

I 100 percent agree with the last part of your post. I hope Red listens

Not great to not get a W. But if our shots falls we’ll be just fine.
Isn’t that true for every team in the country?I mean that’s like saying if we score a bunch of touchdowns we will win or hit a bunch of home runs and we will win.

We lack consistently good players. Maybe it won’t be that way a month from now, but that’s the case at the moment.

Starling. Lampkin. That’s it. That’s the list of guys who are contributing in a meaningful way every game.

A few more have had their moments. And others have done little to nothing.

It blows my mind that we have SIX guards and only ONE is playing well. The rest are mediocre to awful to nonexistent.

I get the sense that there are times in games when Red really has no idea where to turn. Almost every combo he tries ends up with only 2 or 3 guys actually contributing.

Like I said in the game thread, this tourney showed that we can play with effort, compete, and not get embarrassed. But it also showed that we don’t have the horses to win. If we can’t figure it out then our record is going to be lousy.

If the recruiting board is right we had Lampkin 1.0 in the begining of April and lost Leffew at the end of it. Not sure what was left but at that point they settled on Carlos with recs from Speedy Claxton and others. Kid clearly isn't panning out and it sucks to watch.

Concerned they're stuck between trying to get him going (if that's possible) and whatever liabilities he poses in those efforts.

Only one game from now until December 3. This is the time to change some personnel in practice and get stuff done.

Where is the takeaway??... If we are on the bubble in March, they can't talk about a Colgate or Lemoyne loss as a dealbreaker.

How was the spacing?

It's just not where it needs to be for a tourney team. I'm keeping my eyes open though for a breakthrough in that area - we've yet to really space out on an opponent!!

Yeah, I'd like to just see consistent minutes between Taylor and Choppa and just see what we're working with as Carlos isn't taking this squad anywhere.

Bell - 22 points! But 1s across the board in the hustle stats...

Freeman - 13 rebounds! But only 5 points, no blocks & 4 TOs!

Lampkin - 8 rebounds but only 4 points.

Starling - 27 points! & 2s on the other stats.

Off the bench, you have Petra w 6 rebounds & Moore w 8 points.

We have 6 players who produced ... something positive, which was good enough in the JB years, but all of them are extremely 1 dimensional. They are only doing one thing well. Only 3 w points & only 3 w rebounds.not gonna do it... Nobody w good #s for steals, assists, blocks, or anything else.

If Lampkin gets his scoring avg, maybe we have a punchers chance. If we're not +9 committing TOs, maybe we win.

Tech had balanced scoring, 6 players w 8+ we got them on rebounds, but they didn't turn it over. Also, +9 in assists.

Cuffe was terrible last year. Its a testament to how bad we are at this crucial spot, if people are clamoring for Cuffe.
