Post Brooklyn Beatdown

I know that you know what Lampkin got paid. Please stop this charade. We chose a center and hoped to get lucky on a PG on the cheap (relatively). It could have been the other way but Red felt like center was more important. I disagreed then, I disagree now.

I 100 percent agree with the last part of your post. I hope Red listens
Centers are the more expensive product in NIL. I actually think we offered the same relative value (ballpark). Got one, didn’t get the other.

He crumbled in the second half, if he's the best then then the ACC doesn't have very many good guards.
JJ "crumbled" in 2nd half? He had 14 in the 1st half and 13 in the 2nd half.

As for the game, I thought Red had a better night than Thursday -- much better usage of the bench (9 guys with double-figure minutes). I like what I see from Petar M -- he hustles and seems to know the game (it was ridiculous that he didn't even get 30 seconds on Thurs). Choppa had some huge buckets -- played with confidence and needs to play heavier minutes now. Despite the fact that neither he nor JJ are PG's pe se, I like that backcourt much better than with Carlos out there. Choppa is just too talented to be sitting on the bench when Carlos gives you very little out there (and this team desperately needs more shooting). I hate to say it, but he seems more polished offensively than Donnie (despite his lofty ranking).

Glad that I went both nights because we played our two best games of the season -- significantly better than the squeaker wins vs the three cupcakes. After the first three I was thinking we were a .500 team at best. But now I think they will be competitive in the majority of the games the rest of the way.

I couldn’t help but think about the 2012 St. John’s game when we had 14,000 Syracuse fans in a sold out MSG but could only muster about 4000 Thursday. We had more fans in Vegas. I thought that was sad.

We took huge steps forward as a team. We just can't shoot 3's at 25% as a team.

We went from awful play to OK play.

Now can we get to good.

I don't know that we have a great level in us.

I can name two players on the football team who make up nearly half the basketball budget
Fran also has been a lot more dynamic with connecting with potential NIL donors. Hoops absolutely requires a coach who can have the same appeal. Different era.

Huh? Weak field? Texas Tech is 18 in KenPom and Texas is close to top 30. Neither is a bad loss.
Thank you! What are people doing here? We lost to two good teams. St. Joseph's should have been the 3rd place game and we would be 4-1 right now. We need to keep improving but there is hope if we can figure out how to piece together the point guard position and start shooting better.

They need better ball movement. Jay Williams correctly pointed that out on a really nice possession in the first half. A few shot fakes, drives, and good passing.

Where are the good wins coming from to salvage the season? We aren’t beating Duke, UNC and Tennessee. After that it’s all quad two and three games. The league is terrible and will not help us.

That is irrelevant to my post. My point was the sky was falling after the first three games for good reason. It doesn't look so much like that now.

If we had shot FTs game one or made 3's at a pedestrian 35% we win both games.

Thats hope coming off the first 3 games.

Both games we had the wide open 3 late and missed.

It amazes me that Bell is a shooter who misses so many shots left and right.

I agree we will win games, but it’s likely going to be for naught. I know I am being a Debbie downer, but pretty much every season has been over by Thanksgiving the past 4 seasons because the league is terrible outside of the two blue bloods which gives us so few opportunities to win a key game. Being competitive is something BC or Notre Dame would be happy with. We still lack the ability to close down the stretch against a good team.

Can you show any evidence this is true bc everything I’ve read and heard is that talent is the most expensive and the top NIL bball players are mostly wings and guards.

Happy to see your proof, though.

In fact, your second sentence contradicts your first.

I agree. But we didn’t get him. This notion that we purposely “went cheap” on the PG position is just nonsense.

Whatever it was, we have a PG starting that shouldn’t be on our roster.

Its not like we missed on RJ Davis or Sears and landed with Carlos.

I had to listen to the nonsense of how great Reds roster was going to be all summer and be shouted down. Now we have to pretend we just “oopsied” into Carlos at PG.

Conversations I have regularly with one of the program’s top boosters who’s “in the game.” That’s my proof.

Ha, ok. "Trust me bro".

I know you got inside info, I don't think you have accurate information here. I think you have anecdotal information and are applying it as a fact.

But this isn't a surprising statement considering we ended up paying what we did for who we did.

I like him. he plays tough defense and works hard screening on offense.

I'm not sure if I like him yet or not, but he seemed to do some basic stuff ok, which is pretty good for someone coming in cold.

And you are right on screening - which is a good measure on how someone plays with effort and selflessness.

His haircut + facial hair combo makes me laugh, though.
