Post Brooklyn Beatdown

I’d agree if the argument was why we’re weren’t ELITE. we’re talking about just making the tourney here

I think there is more NIL money out there if we were consistently a tournament team and play a fun exciting brand of basketball that fills the dome. Right now we are barely an NIT team. Our program needs an injection of life (see FRAN) and it seems we will have to wait a couple of more years for that.

Right, in response to bpo who stated we aren’t good because we don’t have the NIL for top guys. Point being, don’t think that is true at all.
I never mentioned NIL although admittedly having resources and being willing to spend them is important. I was just commenting on the notion that we have more resources than the Texas teams.

The Texas money thing is way overstated for basketball. The longhorns get some top guys but the rest of the Texas schools are mediocre in basketball. If it’s just about money someone needs to explain schools like Marquette who have been trending up as we decline.
Texas Tech was a bounce or two away from winning the national championship 5 years ago. They’re a better program than we are now.

Do we keep Red if we don’t make the tourney? Does his recruiting class save him?
This is just so disappointing right now.

Barring something catastrophic, I think Red gets another year by default. But that next year I'd expect some sort of mandate, the way Dino had to hit 7 and 5. I hope it works out, I really do.

Donnie had some very tough moments in this game, but you don’t have to be genius to see that the talent is there.
He reminds me of somebody like Jerami Grant or MCW or Andy Rautins, in the sense that he's dripping with talent, but also he's clearly a freshman, and should be getting more like 5 or 10 minutes late in the game this year. Learn the ropes and then as a sophomore he'd be a 35 minute superstar. But NIL and the current lineup maybe doesn't give us that luxury and thrust him into a bigger role.

And, good golly, I wish he'd stop with all the 3PA's. Bad looks should be instant bench IMHO.

Texas Tech = Oil Money.

Syracuse = Doug's Fish Fry.

I don't know that our NIL piggy bank is as bad as we like to assume, especially moving forward. We've got a lot of broadcaster alums, NYC/Long Island old money, etc. And we're rapidly becoming a tech spot. I think it has more to do with getting folks to cough up the cash than having access to it.

Again, I realize this. We also made the final four in 2016 while the program was slowly sliding down hill. One great tournament run does not make a program.

We haven’t been good in years. The program lacks winning DNA. We saw it in both games in Brooklyn late.
No argument from me there. My attitude changed after last year. I’ve always been optimistic about the future of the program. I think I’m on the dark side now otherwise known as the realists. I can’t look at this train wreck anymore and convince myself we’re headed in the right direction.

I certainly did not the last 2 nights.
Chris Bell gets a block under 2:00 minutes, comes back down & has a wide open 3 to cut the lead to 2... you didn't jump up & walk around when he let it go?!

We’re 11 years removed from being a top 15 program. Heck we are 4 years removed from the bubble era.

We need a complete reboot from a culture standpoint. I’m not even sure what JB stood for at the end. His supposed best recruiting class had a number of knuckleheads too.

Maybe I misread, thought you mentioned we aren’t going to get top players due to NIL. I am just frustrated with the basketball program. At least football seems to be turning the corner. I truly believe we needed to go outside the program with the hire. I think the staff is lacking in many areas. I hope I’m wrong and can laugh at these posts down the road.

This is exactly correct which is why a good amount of us were screaming that we needed to do a REAL national search and hire a coach from the outside. The program is stale

This is Syracuse the expectations are a tournament team every year. Period. I am not lowering the expectations because the coach is well-liked and has made personal connections with the community.

My 7 year old expects to win every board game she plays. That expectation isn’t realistic.

Next game, against a relatively lesser opponent, has to be the one where we drop Carlos down to 10-12 minutes.

Cornell should be the type of game where we experiment all game without a true PG.
Instead I am concerned Red will use it as a game to try to get Carlos going.
