Post your big first round upsets here...

I'm not saying they are going to lose, but if I were a UNC fan I wouldn't feel comfortable at all about a first round game against Florida Gulf Coast. They only lost by 10 at A&M and won by 30 tonight. Talk about an underrated 16 seed.

Everyone be picking Iona over Iowa State. I think Iowa State wins that game by 20+.

Yeah, I'm reevaluating that pick since too many people are on the Gaels. The first round game I'm really wrestling with is SHU-Gonzaga. I think either team could beat Utah but which one gets there?

lol...that's my huge debate too. I think Seton Hall matches up pretty well, and beats Utah. I'm on a toss-up with Gonzaga vs. Utah. And no clue who to go with between SHU and the Zags.

Can Seton Hall match the intensity they had in the BET? Can they hit big shots like that again to hold off runs? Not sure.

Yeah, usually I'd lean to the guard play of SHU but for some reason I don't trust them. Utah is pretty good but getting pasted like they did by 30 gives me pause.

yeah I don't trust SH

Lower seed beats higher seed:

Temple, Hawaii, UConn, Providence, Pitt, Iona, Syracuse
I have Temple over Iowa too. Hawkeyes have been in a nose dive for weeks. I prolly jinxed us tho and they'll win for sure.

I have Iowa St beating Purdue to get to the sweet 16.

I like that Purdue team, I think that game (if it happens) with Iowa State will be one of the more interesting match-ups early on. I also like the potential for A&M vs. Oklahoma in the Sweet 16.

I do not like Wiscy vs. Pitt. Blah. Worst game of the tourney.

I know - it's killing me. I lived in Iowa City for a long time, and was excited to see them playing so well. They have looked dreadful for so long now that I'm not sure they're going to come out of it. :(

Ditto. They looked good in the BET, almost too good. Whitehead seems like that guy that will follow-up a huge conference tourney performance with a 1-18 from the field in round 1. Still, I may pick them over Utah. :)

I didn't watch the game - do they have ANY size to compete on the boards?

(not including any 8/9 games)
Temple over Iowa
Yale over Baylor
VCU over Oregon St
Chattanooga over Indiana
Stony Brook over Kentucky :)
Michigan over Notre Dame
Stephen Austin over WVU
Gonzaga over Seton Hall
Syracuse over Dayton

(so yeah, I'm going with chaos in the East)

You're going with all of those? Holy crap.

I haven't seen Michigan play much since early in the year (Dakich doing Indiana and/or Michigan games is intolerable and he always seems to get those gigs), not sure how they beat Purdue, otherwise, seems like they lose every game they should. I'm sticking with ND in that one - similar teams, but ND seems better equipped inside.

Lots of East Coast bias there.

East coast players generally play at a faster pace. The West coast and Midwest game is a slower type of basketball.

I generally pick city teams over corn belt teams because I think the pace of basketball is so much quicker than their conference play.

I'm really torn between Texas and A&M in the second round. A&M's more talented prolly but Shaka's such a good motivator and obviously has had success in the tourney. I think that region's the toughest to predict by far. I currently have Oklahoma advancing but that very well may change.

Agree 100% re Pitt-Wisco. That tape should be burned immediately.

I'm with ya there. I think the only way farm boy teams win in March is by going nuts from 3.

I had Yale over Baylor. Others:
Wichita St over Zona
VCU over Oregon St
Hawaii over Cal
Northern Iowa over Texas

I think Fresno St has a good shot against Utah, especially givent that they are a 14. Fresno is a strong 14, and Utah is a weak 3 as well.

I was actually going to say this. I loved MTSU and Kermit Davis -- I thought they would be a 14 and have a chance to win a game or 2 -- I don't think they'll beat MSU but they got screwed with the amtchup, they will give the Spartans a game. They will go 36 minutes or so toe-to-toe with them.
I'm not one to pat myself on the back -- but because this involves us I will...
