Postgame Thoughts… GT

So this proves that it was the right decision to ride the starters to near-death tonight. We won by the skin of our teeth in overtime. As in, even a single extra of moment of Benny would have most likely lost us the game. You are stating that we have almost no chance to beat ND anyway, so why lose a winnable game to leave something in the tank for a game you say we have no chance to win in any circumstance?
There are other subs besides Benny. Buddy did NOT need to play as much as he did tonight. The defense was better with Symir out there

I'm realizing that Jimmy needs to use the glass on his floaters, or else the chance of him making them decreases tremendously.
Yes and needs to drive from an angle to use glass

Just once I would like to see Buddy let the game come to him. Shooting 5 for 20, dribbling with his predictable head down, ignoring the double team, missing the open man. He costs us so many good open looks. The nonexistent defense. Really sick of the entitled shoot no matter what. the heck with my teammates I am shooting.
he literally has to fully come to a complete stop and survey the opponents every time he passes.

if he doesnt, his turnover rate skyrockets

but since he does that the defenders just have a field day with him...and his passing isnt really a weapon.

if hes gonna play he has to take the approach he does

That drive & jump-stop for the layup by Sid was HUUUGE!!!

And then he caught an elbow to the chin - NO FOUL.

WTAF??
Dude is 6’10” and he went down like a sniper shot him because of that shot to the face -
But GaTech just got to take the ball out like it never happened??

Clearly Boeheim's fault.

But also, he simply banged heads with a guy inadvertently. Of all the stupid calls tonight, that was not one of them.

Ugly game, but im really glad we ground out the win. Thats big to have a shot at the +.500 season. Also very happy for Sid, he gave his all out there, diving on the floor, hustling, just great to see. Finally I got to give JB some credit where it is due. He saw frank was really struggling in the 2-3 so in the second half he went to the 1-3-1 and utilized Frank's quickness and speed. We were really able to stiffle GT once we made that adjustment. Good call by coach.

That was also to stop that easy pass to the foul line since the guards couldn’t stop it.

sidibe can be a force on offense...and if he is...it will do wonders for the team

JBs move without edwards seems to be go strictly iso...and the offense is suffering for that...a lot

sidibe could possibly get the team back to a semblance of what it became with jesse...frank cant...so i'd go with sid as the starter next game. both will play every game though.
I agree that Bourma has more savvy and make a difference but I worry about his stamina. I think starting Frank and getting minutes out of him until Bourama has to come in shortens the amount of time Sid has to be on the floor. Would love for him to play the bulk of the minutes but I think those days are in his past. Sid has game and experience but extremely damaged knees.

This implies if we subbed and a had a better defensive lineup we couldn’t have won the game with defense.

You have no clue if it was right decision.
If Torrence plays and Buddy sits maybe we get an extra stop and that is the difference.
No idea but your statement isn’t anymore true.

I did not say we could not beat ND. They are not an unbeatable team, even at home. I would like to see Benny and Symir given more minutes every game in the 2nd half of games to rest starters for a few minutes. I think JB is wrong in this case. But it is hardly surprising. I am saying that the starters play too many minutes and with 4 games in 8 days, that could be a difference-maker.

I thought Joe played a very good game. One of his best all around games this season.

NO...only 7 mins of Symir (1-2 shooting)..that's it. Another min and we lose.

We couldn't go without the 5-20 and 3-15 shooting by the starters

Especially Buddy’s 0-7 in first half, followed by Jimmay going 0-8.

Couldn’t possibly have either dude sit for a bit and contemplate all of the abuse they heaped upon those rims.

His game is so ponderous.
I dunno that’s it’s even that complicated anymore. He’s as talented as anyone out there but plays as stubbornly as somebody close to him (who we undeniably love) coaches. I’ve hated thinking this and never even wanted to assert it in writing, but he plays like nothing is on the line. He’s not playing like his livelihood is based on how others judge his game. He enjoys playing his way and he doesn’t care about the professional (or team) repercussions that come from it. Either he’s dumb or he doesn’t care enough to adjust anything and I don’t think he’s dumb.

Benny’s +/- tonight says otherwise.

I'm gonna stick up for Buddy here. I think he plays like he's being asked to play. JB thinks he's a better offensive player than he is.

The two late defensive stands in OT were strong.
But THE play of the game was Sidibe's drive to the hoop for a layup.
Who knew he's been hiding that for 4 years?
Reminded me of when Dajuan Coleman did the same against FSU in his last season.

Frank was lost in the zone in the 1st half.

He was much better in the second. In fact, I thought we were gaining some control when he got the blocked shot and snared a couple of tough rebounds. But then he committed that dumb foul--his fourth--trying to double team along the sideline. He went out, Bourama came in and immediately got his 4th.

Frank's best skill is his rebounding. If he can improve his defense--more mental than physical, I think--he can give us a decent frontline the rest of the season.

And I really admire how hard Bourama competed tonight.

What we do know is that the coaching decisions made were clearly correct because not only did the team win, but there even an extra 5 minutes that had to be played.

0307 has rightfully pointed there isn’t much difference between Battle and Buddy. Just how they got their points.
Same type of offense.
JB is just lazy with how he has us playing and asking certain players to do too much.

So based on that logic, when we lose, coaching decisions were incorrect.
Got it.
