Postgame Thoughts... Clemson

If Sidibe is back and healthy (fingers crossed) that will prove to be a huge lift for the team. It is going to take him a few games though to get his feet wet. We need to be able to beat Nc State and see where we are at that point. After this game, I am hopeful Jimmy now recognizes that Kadary is our best all around player and needs to play a majority of the pg mins. We now have a 7 man rotation, let's see what happens.
unfortunately he cant jump anymore
saw him in perfect position for a defensive rbd, reached his hands up but never got off the floor and didnt grab it

He’s an actual center who gets everyone else back in their natural positions which makes us better defensively.
And the defense he brings we lose offense of the guy who is taken out, if it’s marek who’s sacrificed, while I don’t think he contributes much, we lose the one asset of someone who can at least touch the ball without being an automatic turnover.

This team is a rotten mess, I wish I saw some sort of future but I see nothing positive coming

I'll just repost what I posted earlier.

It sucks to be told your baby's ugly, but that first half was a joke.

It is completely unacceptable to shoot 3 for whatever in a half. Three field goals???

On top of that, this has become a familiar pattern as we lapse further into Bobby Bowden territory with our geriatric head coach -- our guys getting outhustled, outworked, and out-executed by a generally mediocre set of opposing players. And before anyone charges in to inform me that Clemson was ranked #12 earlier this year -- I already know, but it doesn't matter -- because it isn't just Clemson. It's Pitt, it's Rutgers, and it is becoming common place. It is flat out absurd to let the opposition get any uncontested shot that they want -- and knock down wide open shot after shot -- when our group of top 100 ranked players can't even get open looks and settles for iso-ball bad shot after bad shot.

We've become horrifically one dimensional on offense -- and for an entire offense predicated around three point shooting, we're starting a backcourt that has the dubious, dichotomous distinction of taking the most shots but shooting the worst % from deep. We are so unathletic, and the guys who aren't are parked on the bench.

Anyone who watched that first half and believes that the right succession plan post-Boeheim is to promote someone from within the program is certifiably nuts. We need a clean break, an infusion of new ideas, and the adoption of a more contemporary style of play on BOTH ends of the floor.

Nothing will change until there is a complete break, a new approach is in place, and our players are actually coached how to execute half court offensive sets.

Oh, and can the new coach throw in a defensive adjustment once in awhile?

And this is coming from a huge, life long Boeheim fan. You won't find anybody who is more appreciative of his accomplishments than me, but we are past time. The game has passed him by, the program has gotten stale, and it's time for him to go.

End of rant.
I couldn't say it any better if I worked on the post for a half hour. I think this situation isn't going to end well for JW. Before the ship totally sinks (think of the teams we fielded after PP) he is going to have to fire JB. And by doing so open up a slew of obnoxious responses from alot of basketball people, including media. But I just believe he should resign and not go out clawing to his desk. After 44 years, I can't for the life of me figure out what he is thinking. His decisions and what he says to defend them remind me of a recent guy in the news alot. Not good.

Joe is so much better when he’s in attack mode. Buddy has no attack mode. Buddy should come off the bench. Joe actually got in the lane in the second half. We need to keep our bigs out of the high post to open up the floor. Most of the time they’re just in the way. None of the bigs will or make 15-18 foot jumpers so our guards are smothered.
Makes sense. We need to eliminate all on ball screens from 25' and in. Kadary doesn't need them, and the other guards can not make the D pay or they simply pick up their dribble or turn their back to the hedging defender, and then the continuity motion stops.

Running a 4 out and get Marek out of the high post would be worth a look. But I'm sure JB has tried this in practice and prefers to feature BB as an all-around guard.

The only attack mode he has is when he attacks the fridge at 2 am

Id be good with playing Sidibe as much as he can handle, and basing our offense around Kadary penetrating, and going off high screens.

What JAB is thinking is obvious. I want to coach my kid. Period.

As for JW, he had a chance to simply affirm what Mark Coyle put in place. Whether it ends well for him is moot at this point. He rolled the dice and chose to punt on an orderly transition. He chose, and here we are.

LIke most games this year I forgot the game was on or chose not to follow it (as I had no TV coverage). And once again I don't feel bad about it.
I went cross country skiing with the wife. Came home and eventually checked the dvr to see if I even got the game today. Nope. Way more fun spending time in the great outdoors.

This is what happens when you play a team that plays aggressive in your shorts m-2-m defense and all you have are two starting slow, unathletic guards who are both catch and shoot guys who need a lot of space to get their shot off. KR doesn't have a consistent outside shot yet. Two forwards that are not a threat from the perimeter. And a front court that is skinny and gets abused on the boards. Another year of not being a tourney team. And it's not going to be any better next year.

Agree. Press more. If at the very least put a soft press on to allow the other team is waste additional seconds bringing the ball up.

yes, you will need to play more subs but this would be much more successful.

agree, if you are going to play 2-3 zone every minute of the season, it should be a three-quarter court 2-2-1 zone press into a 2-3.

It's a conservative press, it doesn't give up lay-ups unlike the embarrassing trunk monkey 1-2-1-1 full court which is an emergency press.

with the 2-2-1 maybe you get some steals, but by the time they get settled they have 18 seconds to test the zone.

It makes too much sense, but also probably too much coaching energy.

Haha, I didn't see where I said he was a savior. Would you rather not have our starting center back and healthy? At the end of last season Sidibe was playing good basketball.

Yes, if he was healthy, and by healthy I mean enough to be productive, not just being in the game. I paid considerable attention today focusing on his movement, activity, etc. when he was in the game. Now, I realize this was his first game back from the surgery, and for all intents and purposes his true 1st game of the season. That being said, his movement wasn't good at all, and he was a relative non-factor while he was in the game. Actually, I think Clemson expanded their lead in the 1st half after he came in.

I know he had that 6 game stretch at the end of last season where he collected consecutive double digit boards, but based upon what I saw today, expecting anything close to that type of production from him the remainder of the season is a pipe dream IMO.

This one is tossed around a lot on here as well...tough one for me. The final fours were incredible/exciting and programs would kill for that chance but there's no denying the decline we've been on lately.

SMH...What he prefers is getting his son 35+ a game so that his name ends up at the top end of the SU record book for scoring. There is no other explaination.

we went to the final 4 in 2018?

Been saying this for years. No brainer.

correct, you’d have to play subs and manage the bench.

I can’t see why Marek would be back either. But who knows.
I hope he leaves for his own sake. There aren’t any centers coming in. What are the chances he plays 30+ at the 5 next year again.
