Potential 2025-26 Roster

See, I disagree with that.

From the player's perspective -- If you clearly know you're not ready freshman year and won't get any minutes, why not preserve a year of NIL earning potential? Practice for a year and then have 4 more years to earn NIL instead of 3?

From the program's perspective -- Coaches know when a kid isn't ready to contribute so it's no loss to use a redshirt if he's bench fodder anyway. Of course there's risk he transfers after you redshirt him but what's the difference if you weren't going to play him real minutes anyway. And if things change and you need him during the season, coach could burn the redshirt -- see Coach K v. Syracuse several years ago when he needed a shooter for the zone.

Definitely less common as most power programs aren't really recruiting these types anymore since most kids don't want to sit and wait. They're more likely to start at a lower level and move up. But I don't think it'll be a completely dead practice. Still has a use in certain situations.
Every kid thinks they are going to end up playing in the NBA. Why would they want to redshirt?

Fennell is not redshirting guys. C'mon.
At this point, he’s the starter;)

In two months, he could be third string and looking at other schools. Or redshirting… It ask depends on what we get in the portal.

I wouldn’t want to be a coach in this fluid environment. There’s a reason a bunch of HoF coaches and other top coaches all decided to retire at the same time, well before they got truly old.

Valid point. Sensible parents who smack sense into their kid until they realize NIL is their best earning potential?

Parents, agents, other family, teachers, hired financial advisors? These kids need advice in the worst way. Redshirting and still getting NIL money is probably the best deal a kid could ever get. For the 99% who will never get paid to play any other way at least.

I don’t know enough to be certain, but i would be SHOCKED if Fennell redshirted.
Yeah he probably won’t. I just don’t think he should prevent them from trying to add a starting caliber PG in the portal. Can’t put all your eggs in on freshman. If he ends up being ready and can contribute by all means let him earn minutes. Anyone that’s seen him play how’s his defense?

He won't. They are still going after one. And it won't be Elliot Cadeau.

Petar needs to get stronger and grow a full beard. He's pretty decently skilled, but gets pushed around and isn't super athletic. Being stronger will help compete on the interior.

Oops

Donnie just heard about NIL...

Stronger, faster, jump higher, learn how to shoot, and the list goes on. About the only thing he does that I like is set actual picks.

He actually grades out decent on defense. It's his offense that needs work.

Don't get me wrong, I like Fennell a lot. It's hard to be confident with a foreign frosh unless he's already ticketed for the NBA.

But it'd be great if he turned out to be a plug and play frosh like Lydon was. Kind of underrrated, but completely capable right from the word go.

In what way?
good shooter...can handle the ball and drive, make moves...and is thin...cannot bang down low very well...isnt very effective in the low post or near the hoop (yet)...needs to be stronger. hes quick enough to cover smaller players but not strong enough to cover bigger guys

He’s a good shooter for a big. Hes not running around screens or creating his own shot breaking people down from the wing. His bag is the elbow post up and pick and pops or make a straight line drive from pump fakes His handle isn’t something you’d want him doing on the perimeter and he’s not pushing the tempo from grabbing rebound and leading a break. Him chasing around screens guarding smaller guys and better shooters is legitimately the last thing I want to see him doing on the court. He had a growth spurt coming into Syracuse and needs to grow into his body more of course but his biggest advantage down low where he is a plus athlete is his length. Most 5s these days are athletic rim runners to catch lobs, he wouldn’t be challenged so much in the post, and if so I wouldn’t mind daring a team to spend 15-20 secs on numerous posessions getting someone into position daring them to shoot over Donnie.

Over the summer Donnie should pull some old tape on a couple of PF’s who played in the Dome back in 1987 and 1996. He needs to add some interior grit and shot blocking to his game, and expand the offensive weaponry. The kid oozes talent and potential. Just needs a really strong off season to get his body ready and his skills rounded out. I can’t wait to see him back on the court.
